I have two canaries
I recently bought what I was told was a male but now I'm not sure. The bird in question is the orangish one on the right. This bird has been building a nest with newspaper and sitting on eggs for ages that turn out to be unfertilized. Now it has built one a second time and does all the sitting. Is it possible that it really is a male?

Which one is sitting on eggs? That one isn't a male.
Do either of them sing? Only male canaries sing.

I read that only females build the nest and sit on eggs. Males are the only ones that sing. If you keep a male with a female and the female isn't ready to breed they may fight and the female may get killed.

I just read that two females can bond, "mate" and lay infertile eggs. I have female budgies that do that. They say it's stressful on femsles to repeatedly lay clutches of infertile eggs so you may want to separate the two females.
