I saw this ad on CL and looked. They have it advertised as a B&G, but it looks more like a Catalina to me. Am I mistaken, are they, or are we both. Just curious.
Very Sweet Blue & Gold Macaw

That's definately not a blue and gold.

Thinking it might also be a Harlequin. I'm new at this...

Yes looks like a Catalina.

It's a Catalina. The picture is very familiar, this ad MAY be a scam. Tread carefully!!

Oh, I'm not going to buy it. I have my hands full now with a dog, a cat and 2 birds. But I'm always on the prowl because I am an animal lover.

So out of curiosity, I emailed the person advertising this "blue and gold". Here's the response I got. And the email address is thebestspot02@yahoo.com. For some reason, I think I've seen that address in a scam warning.

He went there with the bird he bought from me. He contacted me to find a caring parent that will adopt the bird back to the US. He had no time for her. Please email Rev.Christopher at: rev.christopherjones@live.com that you are very interested on the birds and you will provide a good and caring home. The bird is 8 months old, She is DNA tested and come with a Hatch Certificate. Health certified. Please let Rev.Christopher know that I directed you to him about his bird for adoption. He will be excited if he knows you are from me

Hi, I'm wondering just why you are getting rid of that beauty. And how much are you asking for her?

I'd say its a scam...just be careful

I may email the good reverend just to see how much of a scam it really is. Like I said earlier, I'm in no position to take on another bird. Especially a macaw. I'm just starting to make progress with Simba. That is also why I used my secondary, or "spam collector" email.

100% Spam!!!!

Can't tell you HOW many times I've heard the Africa story.:eek:

Why not tell them you will be traveling that way and will pick the bird up in person??? :D Have some fun with the crook. ;)

Yet another variation of the 419 "Nigerian" scam. It reads exactly like a 419.

Here's the email from the good revrund:

Hello,

Thanks for the interest in my Female Macaw and she is very much available for adoption. I live in US before I got a call to work as a Reverend here in West Africa and this gave me no time for me to take proper care of the bird. I want to get her adopted back to US. She is Beautiful, happy & healthy. She is wonderful and kind loves all other animals has been around children, dogs, cats, and rabbits. She eats everything that i eat that is safe for her. Johanna talks and dances and it the class clown so to say. She comes with her cage and two play centers one is a big one that is not together at this point and the other is just a play stand. I love her so much and i just do not have the time for her. She is 8 Months Old and has a very long life still ahead of her. She is very talkative when you don't want her to be and not when you do. She is not typical screamer in general, although she does sound off at dinner time if you don't share something with her. She will be coming with her cage in excellent condition & training toys. Am giving the bird out for adoption you will only have to pay for the shipping fee which is $170 only looking for someone that will pay attention to the bird and give her a good and enjoyable life. She will be coming with all her paper works.

Find attached pictures of the bird and I will need your name address phone number and your nearest airport for me to have the bird registered for her shipment.

I can't wait to hear from you.

Rev Christopher Jones.

And my response:

Something I don't understand. The ad for her was placed on November 8, and in less than 3 weeks you bought the bird, moved to Africa WITH the bird and now want to ship it back? Surely you knew ahead of time that you would be going to Africa. That's not a spur of the moment trip. I've been to Kenya, and I know there is a lot a preparation that goes into a trip like that. Why in the world would you buy a bird like this and take it with you? And even if it was short notice, why didn't Kathy take the bird back, knowing that you were leaving the country?

Since I didn't get a response from my last email, I responded with the following:

You might also want to be a little more organized with your scams. The bird in the picture you sent is not the same bird as the one in the craigslist ad. Also, you called the bird Johanna and the picture you sent is Isabella. Also, $170 for shipping won't cover just anywhere in the USA. Different places cost different amounts. Work a little harder. People are wise to scams like this. Have a nice day.

I love Craig's list there is a blue throated macaw up for rehoming up my way. I've seen the add once a month for the past 5 months each time the prince gets a little cheaper. I find hard to believe that he hasn't found someone interested in it by now.
something makes me doubt that this guy is legit.
