Just got back from a friend's neighbor's house & it wasn't pretty.....the lady had six finches that died this afternoon. When I walked in the house I had a pretty good idea what might have been the problem.....it was a product called Grout Boost, it's an additive mixed with tile grout to make it waterproof & stain proof.

The lady had not advised the tile contractor she had birds in the house & the contractor did not know the danger of the additive to avian pets.....he's going to replace her birds, but the fact remains that the product is deadly to birds.

I knew what the potential problem was because that stuff stinks, but is very effective at what it's made for.....if you plan on using or having the product used, move your birds out of the house for about 3-5 days...the smell dissipates in about a day & a half to two days......

oh wow, what a shame.

thanks for the advice

Thanks for the heads up! We have sealed our tile in the past and do not remember any odor. I guess it depends on the product used.

The Grout Boost is an additive, added to the powdered grout and is used as a water replacement...not...an after market sealant that you paint/roll on...and...if you had ever used it, you would remember it.....

how sad, thank you so much for this information. It's kind of the contractor to buy you friend new finches, not that they're replaceable :(

Thanks for the info, Weco
