Hey Conure fans,
Today Charlie gave himself a bath! (I did fill his tub)
You may think it's a little mundane to shout about but sadly Charlie is a rescue and has many complicated issues both medically and behavioural.
His last keepers found him to big and scary to deal with whilst having quite a formidable attitude and set of weapons to match.
This meant from day one with them he was rounded up with a garden squirter bottle of water whenever he was somewhere they didnt like or to get him in his cage.As you can imagine after nearly 12 mths he was completely scared of water.
Once here he would drink only from tiny budgie cups if he didnt throw them and bath time was torture for him to even be near so for 4 mths he didn't have one at all although one was always out.Then one day he jumped down by the sink with the cold tap on and took a quick sip at which point he ran around with his funny massive feet and let out the loudest Patti screams of excitement I've ever heard going back and forth drinking a little each time.
From that point his water relationship has improved slowly and has built up until today when I filled his tub turned around and then splash he was in.He has a good sized wingspan that once up to "flap speed" can shift large amounts of water as you can see.
*I'm not 100% happy with him using the kitchen sink for hygiene but it's where he sees my whole family safely interact with water and feels reassured by that I think but will now introduce him to other sources of water around the house and build up to using a large stand alone bath like my other birds.

When you first see a Patti they can look a little dull up against others but the beauty of it's colourings are like a secret side you only get to see if they let you get close enough.They must have 8-10 different shades and colours under their wings and tums that I marvel at every time he stretches out or does a full speed fly by which is an amazing sight to see with his big pink feet grazing your head!
