Cheddars Journey - Life with ABV and PDD

We did not do a nerve biopsy for the pdd we just did the antibody test for AG


Currently he will get two months of weekly injections and oral medication


For anyone wondering

I noticed the symptoms with him when he was 1.5 years

He ate fatty seeds and had. Gi upset


Plum also caused upset


Stress caused the last upset



We haven't had his first shot yet but I thought sharing his journey might help others not feel alone

More info the upsets had minor indications at first

Head twitches not the regurgitating one

The one where head is on a horizontal axis side to side very fast


And it was a lot in a row. Antibiotics fixed it each time


Vomiting only happened once that was the seeds

He hates tornado sirens just as much as me
He twitches his head when stressed

He weighs 173 g constantly so far he's very strong.

He eats zupreme natural pellets and I change his water several times a day

Nothing much to note otherwise

I’m so sorry. I want to share with you a VERY helpful Facebook group and some wonderful links. My Yuri is ABV positive, and for a time I feared she had PDD symptoms, but later found it was due to foreign body ingestion and she improved once it was out. She is also only 1 year old.

Today was first injection he was very nice with the vet tech


He gets car sick though... I tried my best to distract him . Does anyone reccomd anything for a AG carsick burd

Might try elevating the travel cage so they can see outside the vehicle.
I'm not sure it will help but mine like to see outside and even interact with other drivers.

Sitting on the edge of my seat, biting my nails out here. Let's hope the injections work on Cheddar!

This week so far seems good
He was at 173g and now 172

Which considering the massive ten g gain we are now steadily going back to his normal. He is fed 2.5 tablespoons of pellet or more vs gorging on a bowl which hed overeat. Weird thing for something with AG to gain weight rapidly lol



He got his k and h panel for heating at night
He loves it

No more morning shivering

175 today so weight barely fluctuating as far as I can tell


Very active and insane as normal. Claimed victory over the mounted television today.


He loves his warming panel.
He screamed at 2am for us to kill a housefly for him that got in his cage

I will say this last week he's been happier and more playful didn't know it was possible for a caique but I think the injections do make him more comfortable

I'm so glad to hear Cheddar's coping so well with his treatment, @PeentPeent How many more injections does he need to have? My princess parrot Peachie had to have six to treat her psittacosis infection, one per week on the same day every week to make sure the organism was totally eradicated from her system. She handled it like such a little champion, she dealt with it much better than I did!

Absolutely I'd take the entire disease myself and live with an autoimmune issue forever if I could

I noticed he stopped sneezing or picking his nose so often

Perhaps it was a uncomfortable coping mechanism while being inflamed


He's been super happy today and energized which is normal but even more so

I’m sorry to hear your parrot has bornavirus. I’m sure hearing that was really stressful. It sounds like you are taking really good care of your feathered friend. He’s very cute!
