Where did you buy the cage? Was it new? If it's chipping after 6 weeks, especially if it's causing problems, you should be able to get a refund. If there's a 30 day return policy, I'd still dispute it!

It's a new cage, but I doubt I'd get a refund as birds aren't supposed to sit there gnawing on them like rodents. Merlin is just a little odd!

It turned out it wasn't the cage anyway. However, I'm either not giving her the grate back or will have a custom SS one made for it.
