chewing leg band

I just got my bird's leg band on earlier tonight and he is very upset about it. Will he eventually get used to it? Will he be okay at least in the short term while it's on for customs? If I could get him microchipped I would but he's a budgie and way too small. I'm moving to a new country and the export/import forms require either a microchip or a leg band.

Keep a close eye on him to be sure he doesn’t injure himself, and remove any string, cloth, or rope toys in the mean time. Try to give him extra fun things to distract him. I went through this with my GCC Flick when we moved to Hawaii.

He's not too small for a microchip.... you just probably haven't found a vet comfortable or experienced enough to do it.

Be wary of vets claiming to be able to microchip small birds. Make them tell you how many BIRDS the same size as yours they have chipped. After personally watching a vet kill a bird while chipping him, minutes after insisting it was completely safe I’m very hesitant to trust them on this topic. Their are specially designed itsy-bitsy chips small enough for smaller birds but they aren’t widely available yet.
