cigarette smoke smell concerns..

hello again, everyone
i have a new concern..
so , i live in a apartment with my boyfriend and his mom. a few months ago, his mom has allowed her boyfriend to move in. he mostly keeps to himself and stays in her room during the day because he is under house arrest, and has to stay home most of the time. however, he is a HEAVY smoker, and it has gotten so bad that we get whiffs of smoke smell from the room…
the bird’s cages are a good distance away from their room ( all the way down the hall , a ways from the cage ), but we still smell it…will this effect the birds?
i really really am stressed about this, and open windows to try to get rid of some of the smell, but i don’t know what else to do.
the birds are happy and healthy, they eat, drink and play, no sign of breathing problems ( yet, thank god )..
should i be worried?

It won't hurt them to smell the scent of smoke. Not idea but it won't hurt them.

Smell isn't harmful. The actual smoke is harmful for everyone. Take precautions as you're doing. You may consider a room air filter.
