Turns out I was worried for nothing. I gave Clifford pellets last night and he ate them up so fast! He was probably starving since all he was eating before was sunflower seeds out of his seed mix. I offered him some seed mix this morning too, just to see and he wanted nothing to do with it. YAY! Now I'm going to have to work with him to get him to eat some fresh foods and I figure I'll just use sunflower seeds for training.
Other progress: He hopped on my shoulder last night from his cage door (because he is still afraid of my hands) and the cute little thing started making those beak grinding sounds, soon after he fell asleep in my hair. I think he is becoming more comfortable!

Well, that was easy! He did better getting on pellets than 2 of my birds, that's for sure, lol! Some may disagree with me, but at this point, I wouldn't give him seed at all, except for using those sunflower seeds as a training tool. You might also try Nutriberries as a training tool as they at least have all the vitamins and minerals as pellets do and many birds love them.

Continue trying fresh foods. Eat them in front of him and offer him pieces. Try maybe cooking the veggies and seeing if he prefers them that way (my birds do). Try cutting them into tiny pieces and see if that helps. Maybe tie up a sprig of broccoli so it's like a toy.

I've tried eating them in front of him before and he just throws it right back at me. He gets really really really jealous when I give the dogs a cookie. In fact when I say "tyson, do you want a cookie?" Clifford gets real excited and starts dancing around like he is gonna get one too. I suppose I could start feeding the dogs broccoli so Clifford will eat it! Couldn't hurt!!

Many dogs like vegetables, especially carrots. It's worth a try!

What happens if you let Clifford share your plate with you? Make some veggies, or a fruit plate for yourself, and let him out to investigate it while you are eating it. Rowdy loves to share food directly off my plate.

Clifford still hasn't completley learned to trust me yet, he's still a little nervous sometimes, I don't know if he would come to me and investigate my plate, but I sure will try that!

This is wonderful news!

Mickey still is touch and go with pellets...some days he loves them...some days they are all over the floor, So congrats to you and Clifford!!!!

And as far as veggies go, if I ever get Mickey to do more than mouth one or tear it up and throw it....I'll let you know ;)

ALthough we did discover he loves fresh grass...can that be considered a veggie??? LOL

Be careful with stuff like spaghetti though. Rowdy wants to climb right into the middle of it, lol!

Actually try some stuff as well that isn't veggies, like bread, cereal (non sweetened), and spaghetti with tomato sauce. Mine all love spaghetti. I can't even say that word aloud. A piece of pizza crust with a bit of sauce goes over really well, too. Once he gets used to getting yummy foods from you he might be more likely to try more stuff.

Have you tried sprouts for Mickey????? I bet if he loves grass he may like sprouts too! Just seem kinda similar to me. I'm going to try them with Clifford this weekend. I have a link that Pedro sent me that was really cool and it seemed pretty easy to do. I will try and find it again and send it to you if you like. :-)

Good, this will be easy. Spaghetti is my favorite food!!! lol I never though about feeding it to Clifford though. But if you say a little is ok then I'll try that too :-)

Yes please send me the link....I'll try anything......lol

Oh and spaghetti is something Mickey loves! Also any bread (I try to keep it healthy) cookies, fruits, oatmeal.....he'll eat just about anything but veggies......we've tried raw/cooked/steamed/boiled small pieces/big pieces he just won't have them! lol

I sent it to you in a private message just now but just in case it did not go through here it is:

sprouts

Looks pretty easy!

Thank you! I'm going to try this over the weekend.....

Yes, spaghetti is very good for them as long as it's not meat sauce. If you normally use meat in your sauce, set some aside before adding the meat for your birds. Tomatoes have all those anti-oxidents. There are reasons Italians seem to live forever, lol! Or at least the ones in my family do.

Ok now I want spaghetti! :D

I may get some for lunch....I mean so Mickey can have the leftovers tonight...I'm really doing it for him;)

My boyfriend is a chef. He makes THE BEST tomato sauce in the whole wide world. I've already called him and asked him to cook dinner tonight (he he) Now that I think abnout it, Clifford may be able to eat a lot of stuff we eat. Joe only buys his groceries at the health food store or whole food store, so now I'll have an excuse for Joe to make me dinner every night! lol

This just sounds awesome all around! Nothing like a win/win situation:cool:

So how many of you had spaghetti during the last two days? I made it for dinner tonight. We all very much enjoyed it, but now Merlin has sauce on her forehead. She won't let me wipe it off either:D
