I keep hearing the phrase "cockatoo person" all over the forum and in a couple of different places...

what does that mean?

I think it means someone that owns or has plenty of cockatoo experience.

This was my initial conclusion, but it seems that the phrase is being used to describe a particular personality rather then simple experience with the species of parrot.

lol too's from what i have read are very different from say my nut, with thier body language, but if some1 said i was a too person, i'd think they were calling me excitable an loud lol

The person is deaf and has no fingers

But on a serious note, to me it means this:

A person who likes devoting much of their time to their bird and likes a snuggly affectionate bird. But also has plenty of time to devote to their bird. To me, a retired person would make a good Cockatoo person because they have plenty of time to spend with them.

Coickatoo's can become spoiled very quickly and will scream just for the sake of screaming, especially if you are the focus of their affection and don't spend then time with them that they expect. They are VERY LOUD NOISY BIRDS, more so than most.

A cockatoo person is like a cat person or a chihuahua person or any person who has a strong affinity for a partiular species/breed/personalty. 'Top's tend to have very strong personalities that can lean toward the...needy side at times. However, they are very devoted and loving. But their noise level can be alarming.

When we were fostering the U2, he was a velcro bird on my shoulder. He seriously snuggled up under my chin, preened me (to the point of taking off a couple moles) and preened my hair. He was incredibly loving. However, he was very jealous to the point of biting family members if they got close to me and biting me to keep me away from them. And these weren't little nips. I think if he had been our only bird, we may have kept him and gotten him more used to the rest of the family. But he was not at all accepting of our other birdies.

LOL You guys are funny!

A cockatoo person is someone who is not only owned by a cockatoo but is a person who is also capable of meeting a cockatoo's needs. Out of all the parrots you could own, Cockatoos are one of the most difficult to deal with. Cockatoos are EXTREMELY needy, in just about anyway you can think of (notate the 'Princess' title added on the end of Romeo). It takes a special person to meet their needs. Cockatoos can offer a lot but it takes a lot to get it. Its hard to explain, they just need a lot more than other parrots (they don't just need it - they demand it). If your wanting one, then you have to be very dedicated in order to own one, other wise they will not be happy. An unhappy Too is not pleasant (if their not happy NO ONE is happy - including your neighbors). I ABSOLUTELY LOVE mine and cant think of life any different. If you really want a Too then you'll make it work. I work part time and I'm a full time student (going into my 2nd year of an RN program - can't wait til its over). I MAKE the time for my Too. A cockatoo person is someone who is 100% dedicated to their bird and willing to stop at no end to see to it that their bird is happy. A Too takes a level of dedication that surpasses anything else I've ever been faced with BUT you do get back what you put in with a Too.

Some also like to call us crazy. I think that this works well to sum it up also. :D

P.S. I have all of my fingers. LOL.

several years ago when I first acquired my Amigo, my niece called and I was telling her about this cockatoo that was given to me. She says, "Don't you know those are old people birds?!". I did not know that at the time and as I'm aging, I'm coming to the realization that this bird is going to know a lot of old people, mostly because they live so long!
