Hi all I'm new to the board my name is Beth and my family and I are the proud owners of 2 Grey's and a rescued handivapped Goffin Cockatoo.
You all seem very knowledgeable so I have a question. I have a congo grey, I have had him since he was 6 mos old- he is now 11. We just apoted another Grey not sdure of his sex or age BUT-- he/she is HUGE much bigger than my congo (Keegan). Also the feathers are much lighter. the face is a little different as well. Anyone have any answers as to why? Or is this a sub-species and what would it be?

Also we JUST got this bird 2 days ago- the pervious ownser said he ate Zupreem- well he's not eating it and he's aweful big so I'm wondering of he was on a seed diet. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat?

Thanks in adv!
Beth

Ah thank you for the clarification- I thought the difference was location, but WOW what a difference! Keegs -my bird from birth- is much darker and smaller and his face is different-he has more "blue" around his eye. Could it be out adopted grey is a female? They just assumed from his size he was a male.

Too funny- Our new guy-Atticus- our big boy- it also perfectly feathered and seems He is just a little shy right now- we are all trying to get to know him. We dont have much history on him. So until he gets all his wonderful blood test done he is kept seperate from the others. They do talk back and forth through the doors tho which is hilarious!

Oh, I love it, two 'newbies' (and Bman, I use that term loosely with you) discussing! Beth, you couldn't be talking to a better person about birds, Birdman knows just about everything (at least in my eyes) and is a great resource for everyone here!

Welcome to the forum

I have said it before, and I will say it again ... BMan, I envy that flock of yours and how well they get along! I know you are going to say that it's all the training that you do with them, and I know it's a lot of work ... but just look at the benefits that you reap from that work!

So, if we are going to start a football team ... Sweatpea, Tusk and Atticus can be our starting Centers and Guards ... of course we have to make sure that they never, NEVER play against the Eagles ... that would just not be any good!

Lol that''s 'too funny!
Well we go for a check up a blood work to make sure Atticus is healthy so he can join the other parrots. Also getting sexed. Wish us luck!

Ok went to the vet today- I was way off on his weight- he just looked so BIG--Wow was OFF- LOL he is actually only 524 grams- not so impressive huh?
but the vet said he is a little chubby!
We got DNA sexed today so we will soon find out was he/she really is!
I'm so excited!
Oh he FREAKED at the vet- I find it so heard to believe he had yearly visits...

That's ok, we'll forgive you ... this time! ;)

He is such a stoic bird. He so different than Keegan who is spastic like me. I wonder how old he really is.

How rare are the coastal greys?

Thanks for the info-you're very knowledgable. It's amazing how different looking they are-almost like 2 different species.
I can't wait until his quarintine is over and he can meet our other parrots!
