Considering rehoming 2 Amazon yellow naps

it starts with the threads title, due to health, life and personal reasons im considering rehoming, i thought it might be better for the birds, so i looked on google for parrot rescue and its one extreme to another, one end they dont even have a place just various fosters, who care for the birds until a good home/buyer is found, i could do that,

the other end is parrot club med, but their entry fee is 1000s out of my budget

is there a safe, down to earth way to try to rehome parrots where its about getting them into a loving hopfully forever home, i will not just dump them, i would need a lot of screening to trust and have faith before giving them away,

One of the most commonly missed resources is one's Avian Professional. Your Avian Vet has a known history of your Parrot(s) and commonly receives or is aware of individuals they know (other clients) in search of a well cared for Parrot(s).

I’m sorry you’re facing this decision. Please research and consider your available options. Unfortunately some rescues are only profiteers in disguise. I hope you find a fantastic forever home for your friends.

As mentioned above, your location would be helpful. There are good people out there too, just a matter of finding them.

I’ve come to believe that species specific Facebook groups are often the best place to find a home for parents, especially high demand birds like Amazon’s that need specific things from their owners. I would look for Amazon specific Parrot groups, and come up with a list of requirements for your new home and questions for them, and a list of references you want them to provide.

thanks all, im basically in central florida, im not going to give them to any rehoming group, the ones i did look into are charling adotpers high fees while doing halfassed what i can do myself better safer, im going to give them away free to the right home.



im not going to pay a parrot club med some ridiculous high fee, its like a horder who found a way for others to support their habit.


im not going to go with a first time parrot owner, while not wild these guys do need a person who is parrot savvy,


i dont do facebook, nothing wrong with it or me just its not an option,

i have nervious heath issues, drdp stuff like ptsd and panic ocd add, etc lol i think askew at times, after i made that last reply i found a fellow who does wildlife rescue type stuff, hes out in bithlo, i was in orlando, eustis now, about 20 years back he took in my grandmothers squrrle monkey, he had two others at the time,


turns out he has several other parrots he loves them and will take mine, no adopting out its a forever home, im very happy, hopfully i can do this within the next month,

Been about a year and my last post was i guest sadly too soon, lets just say that the place i thought the 2 yellow napes were going to live didnt work out,



I still believe it best to find these guys a new home so i noticed that type section here and im going to make a fresh post there,

Here is an update,


Get ready, im feeling poorly my nerves problems playing hell, OCD all kicking, so this will be long winded and perhaps babbling,


About a year ago i posted in another section about finding a forever home for my 2 amazon yellow napes, i thought it was done but no, sadly didnt work out, leave that there.



So the birds the small one i call lulu the larger is greenman, lulu is very loving IF she likes the person and while greenman did allow me to handle him he can be a moody mean aggressive fellow who i still have a scar from, and no, i do not know their sexes,



They have sepparate cages, next to each other about 20 years so i want to keep them together,


I started my hunt for a heaven for them on the Google search machine, in my area ( central florida )

In a way the hunt was disheartening, no, i dont have 1000s to pay for a persons bird collecting hobby, so someone can look glamorous as a rescuer ,

Do they realize the birds who need that the most have owners who are not rich?
Sorry to sound snide but it was sad to me,


Next was revues that laid out how a bird rescue will take your bird for free of course and sell it at profit to other flippers, guess thats why they are so picky about the birds must be fully tame, again, very sad for misfit birds who need homes because the person cares and loves the birds.


So i figure why not list it here, i see in this section a lot of poor feathered angels need homes and i see a fee red flags where people ask for free birds, its very reassuring to see members here jump right on the questions.


Sure, i know it isnt going to be easy to find my guys a new home but i love them and its my obligation to them to care for them and find them that better home than i can give so they can be happy birds,


So if you are thinking you will hit me up keep in mind you will have to prove you are for real, these guys are NOT for a parrot novice, not for you because think a parrot would be "cool" they are not for someone who collects pets,



Not looking for a rehomer, as you see im looking for them a home myself,

Ideally these birds would go somewhere that can introduce them into a aviary type living situation, you know like the people claim to offer who also demand 1000s a year to keep your bird for you,
These guys do not like kids or dogs or cats, they would like to have lots of attention,



Yes, i know this isnt going to be easy to find them that home but here is the start, any help is greatly appreciated

I think this is a great post and I am hoping someone here can help you out.
I am not in the market for any parrots currently, but there are quite a few regulars who are also located in Florida.

I'm sorry your last home didn't work out, but I am glad at least they ended up back with you and not stuck in a worse situation (because clearly you care).

When you look to the right of someone's name, you can see how many times they have been "thanked" which usually is indicative of how much they have posted. If you click someone's name, you can view all posts by that user and all threads started by that user. If all of someone's posts are solely about wanting birds (over and over) or if their very first post is a post stating they want your birds, I would be cautious. I am not saying anything bad about using the forum to find pets, but anyone can join, so just investigate thoroughly.

This is a situation that most of us on here will have to face one day. With the smaller species, 'keets, 'tiels and parrotlets, we may out live them (may !). But the larger parrots have really long lifespans, potentially. I know Salty will certainly out live Geri and I, but thankfully my oldest son, who Salty adores, has promised to take him. He better, its in my will - he gets to keep his share of the inheritance as long as he keeps Salty, and you can bet my other kids will make sure that happens. Or he has to find a new home for him that all 3 kids agree is a good home for him.

BTW, if you put your location in your profile or in the posts, you stand a better chance of one of our members, local to you, will adopt them.

I dont expect this to be easy and im rather jaded to peoples scams, i was in the nightclub music biz so i can detect a player charlatan pretty quickly,



I just want a home for them where they get the attention they deserve

Please remember to have a discussion with your Avail Medical Professional. They have clients who because of a loss, are looking to introduce feathers again to their now far too clean and silent home...

Regional Bird Clubs commonly have monthly or quarterly news letter and of course, once this World returns to some kind of normal meetings.

Family search, you maybe surprised (or not) that there maybe someone out there is a secret Large bird owner.

Thanks for all ideas, but on folks who lost a pet years back my wife takes in a jack Russell dog, he was sweet, hyper and sadly just didnt fit in so i went to find him a new better suited forever home, a lady who had lost her jack russel jumps on him and takes him but a few days later hes tied to my porch with a snarky note that goes into how hes not her beloved blah blah and she doesnt want him,
He did end up in a great loving home but i am not really warm to rehoming on rebound or to try to replace someone who is gone,


If i posted these guys on say the dirt flea market craigslist after i weeded out the lowlife scamners there would be kind souls who would want and take the birds on whim of impluse and it would end in disaster, we all know the idea of a cool exotic bird on our shoulder is fantastic but few are willing to deal with the poo down the back of ones shirt,



Im also and perhaps to some degree unfairly getting more jaded to the pious "look at me" so called parrot rescues that have websites boasting and chest pounding how they are there to help the birds who need them most, they all want donations of course but are always full,
Then why not post that you are full on the website? because it would hurt donations which i know the legitimate rescuers need,

I had one suggest if i paid enough fees they had room.


Okay enough of my snide soapboxing, i am going to go with the other idea on here ( thanks! ) of hitting up any local bird clubs, those folks i am thinking will be real and have my same disdain for the players,

Yes, i posted on CL and yes most were scammers and flippers who were not subtle,
Others wanted them for little kids or on impulse because they think parrots are cool but they have zero experence,


I have ptsd, nervious and ocd ect issues so im very tenacious on screening people, i likely have chased a few off but i also weeded out the charlatans.



A lady hit me 10mins from me, she offered up her address, facebook and history with parrots, she so far passed every question i asked, she has said and done everything i asked for, could she be a very savvy flipper? Sure, but she has really gone thru a lot so far including telling me im welcome to pop in any time to visit them,
As i told her i dont do anything quickly, so we will see how it goes,

You might still have success here...I myself took in a Quaker re home listed here..
But it can take time..
Two Amazona are a big commitment and I wish you the best in finding the perfect place for them , keep bumping your thread every few days so people who don’t log on often can see.
And maybe adding a picture will temp people
I would feel the same as you and be just as picky if I had to re home, trust your instincts

Hi there. I truly hope for the sake of your birds and yourself that you find a wonderful home for them. I suspect there may be plenty of folks here who would want them, and be fantastic parronts. Yes, there may be a troll or two lingering around, but we do our best to avoid that here. Something to consider is that you are new here as well, so some might be wary of you, just as you would be of someone you don't know wanting to take them. Safer for all concerned, and that's a good thing. This really is a great community of people who want the very best for the birds.

While there might be the perfect person out there, they also might not be near you, so don't express interest because of that.

Personally, I would LOVE two more YNAs, but I already have one that I love dearly, and an Ekkie. They keep me busy enough, plus, you're too far from me to make it feasible. So, not that I wouldn't WANT them, I'm just realistic, as I'm sure many folks who have seen your post are.

I wish you the best in finding the perfect home for your guys. For someone who obviously cares for them, I can't imagine how hard it must be. I would feel exactly the same if I had to re-home mine.
