My quaker has just settled in and she is out of her cage most of the day but in the evening when i get home she tends to do a funny thing. She constantly flaps her wings and doesnt stop...what is this? also i bought a vet aproved soft food for her but she doesnt want to eat it at all she just wants seeds all the time which ive stopped giving her cos i know its not good all the time...what else can i feed her as a staple diet?

Mickey does the same thing when I come home from work....I think it's just excitment that you are there :-)

As for the food, try soaking the pelleted food in juice and giving her that.

Bob and Delilah both took to pellets right away when I offered them in a seperate bowl from their seeds.

Awesome thanks...I got a bit worried about the flapping cos it was weird but I guess its that. Another thing is
She doesn't eat apples she just bites pieces off and throws it on the floor but other fruit she eats well

She must not like apples! Give her other fruits instead.....she has preferences just like us :D

I find that young quakers do the wing flapping thing it'a actually a feeding response thing. They kind of all fluff up, flap their little wings & make like a quacking sound. So cute.

As far as the feeding goes, if your bird wasn't given a variety of foods before your got her then she isn't going to recognise foods that are good for her, she will only eat what she knows to be food. You can try to feed her a variety of foods chopped up in little cubes. Make it as colorful as possible. You just can't stop giving her seed if she won't eat anything else.

My quakers get a combination of small parrot seed & pellets mixed together, also sprouts, fresh vegetables & fruit. They love corn on the cob, celery, apple, orange, actually there isn't much the leave in their bowl.
