Angus is my 5-6 yo Dusky Conure.
Hello, my name is Megan. I have a dusky conure named Angus. He is currently watching me type as he sits on my shoulder. We are having problems with him screeching constantly at random. I always let him come out in the morning and check his food and water. He seems to have everything he could be demanding and has been let out to sit on a favorite perch or on one of us. Some days this makes him happy, some days he continues to screech, loudly and in a small trailer it is overwhelming, raises any negative energy already present and makes us all irritated. It's nothing serious enough to do anything drastic! we love our boy very much, we just want to know if we are missing something...

Could he be seeing something or someone outside? My Nanday is a sentry and gives an alarm screech as soon as someone is on my property. She would probably get to be rather obnoxious if I lived in a more populated area. If that is the case, maybe adding some shades or curtains to any windows where he is seeing a lot of activity could help.

Question - what do you do exactly once he begins to screech? I'm wondering if the screeching may have been unintentionally reinforced somehow.

My GCC gets noisy when I put him to bed and turn out the lights. If his noise level gets too too bad I cuddle with him, holding him under my chin like he loves. I talk softly to reassure him and it seems to work. He is quiet for the rest of the night.

My Diva gets to screeching when she wants out of her cage.I have to ignore her until shes quiet. She screeches sometimes just because shes excited, and bobs up and down at the same time.I kinda think its cute.

Yes, they do. They screech for fun, because they want something, because they want to go to bed, or be uncovered in the morning, at toys or to warn you about something.

Mattie screams her head off when she wants to go to bed. Im trying to get her to click back to me instead of screaming. Sometimes it works, most time it does not LOL. A work in progress.

None of my birds scream... If the cockatooes (Corella and Galah) hear me open the back door they'll call to me.. They live in an aviary on the back patio.

Max will sometimes play rather loudly with a toy of his, but I wouldn't call it screaming...

The conures are generally pretty quiet...

My house is also pretty quiet, as I live by myself.. The birds alerts Ben (the dog) to visitors, but we don't get many of those...

I suppose, if you live in a close knit community, you might start asking the birds to be quiet, the moment they make a sound, and that could back fire in that the birds might think it as a reward...

Rowdy starts saying, "Ok." when she wants to go to bed, but that kind of happened by accident. Like Spiritbird's GCC, she never seemed to want to go to bed when she was young, and would screech and complain about it. Because I was working then she just wanted as much time with me as she could get, and if that meant trying to stay up later at night, well, then she was going to try. Then one night I asked her, "Are you ready to go to bed?" She just looked at me and then said, "Ok." It was hard not to start laughing. But, ever since that night she says, "Ok" over and over to let me know it's bedtime. Sometimes she says it in the morning to uncover her as well.

I also gave her quite a bedtime routine early on to make it more fun for her. First we do the "Ok", then it's "Kiss" and kissing sounds over and over. Then we also say, "You're a good girl, I love you." and finally it's "Good night". If she should outlive me, I hope her new owner is willing to do this for her.
