What kind of bird is this? We got him yesterday from an older man who could no longer care for him. He's slightly larger than our parakeet/budgies.

I'm going Bourke :)
Good on you for taking him on!

Hello, Welcome to the forums! It was very kind of you to adopt an older bird and help out the owner. You have a beautiful little Bourke's parakeet there. I'll let those that know more about the species help you with the specific mutation and gender.

Cute little thing! My mother has a Rosy Bourke's, but her Pinky is a male and is more extensively pink. They say the females have grayer cheeks and aren't as pink, but her back is the same shade as Pinky's is, so I'm guessing a female Rosy mutation Bourke's parakeet :).

Pinky is a very docile bird. He's really not too active either, and likes to just sit still for long periods, so when I visit I joke that he's a fake bird. He's not too big on toys, although he has a ton of them, but loves to run around on the ground (fast) with his Princess of Wales parakeet friend. Pinky reminds me of a finch (or non-parrot type bird) in a way, because he doesn't climb like a parrot, he hops. He has a soft pleasant chirp. Not nearly as obnoxious as the budgies lol. Not as assertive, or hyper as most budgies either. Very gentle birds.
