I think my female conure may be pregnant?! She used to preen my male conure all day long. Now she’s sitting in the corner of her cage sleeping almost all day, and fanning her tail. I adore my conures but I don’t want babies 😢 I’m sure they have got in a few mating sessions. I can’t watch them every second. She’s eating fine, not sneezing, no apparent injury.

Ruh roh, maybe somebirdie's got a little bun in the oven!! Have you got some dummy eggs around to help out with those maternal yearnings if she does happen to start laying?

I sure do, they don’t look like conure eggs to me. Hopefully she doesn’t know the difference.

Oh I hope they do the trick if needed! They should work if they've got a bit of weight to them šŸ¤žšŸ¤žšŸ¤žI had a devil of a time finding something that would convince Lilly that they were hers, fake budgie eggs didn't fool her cos I think they were a bit too big and the only finch eggs I could get over here were blue and she wasn't buying that either! Eventually I found a nice egg-shaped piece of snowy quartz and, strangely enough, that worked very nicely indeed.

She’s just been sleeping like this all day long. She hasn’t really left the perch. Even when I’ve opened her cage door she is not coming out. My male sun conure goes over there to check on her often. I haven’t seen her droppings being larger. I’ve never in the 15 years we’ve had Kiwi seen her just sit on the same perch all day, and sleeping like this. She seems exhausted.

Poor girlie, I hope she'll be ok! šŸ’

The eggs are light in weight they are hallow. I am hoping she’s just molting bad. I never wanted to use the eggs as I’ve been hoping they won’t have babies. They are sneaking behind my back to mate šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I’ve caught them in the act.

You can get solid plastic eggs from www.dummyeggs.com, the extra weight might help make them more convincing.

By contrast to your sneaky pair, there is no such sneaking around with Lovejoy and Peachie. They're not bonking nearly as much as they were a few weeks ago but they still have "relations" a few times a day and they're not shy about doing it right in front of me!!

We are sitting at the emergency vet. Kiwi was puking this morning. It’s the first time I’ve seen a parrot puke, and not regurgitate like Nico my Ekkie. She wasn’t moving around anymore even for food. She can still perch. She wasn’t eating or drinking anymore either. The vet has her in an incubator waiting to be seen.

I hope they figure out whats wrong with Kiwi. She's definitely not well and it's probably not egg binding. Egg bound birds are restless then sit in the bottom unable to perch. They don't normally puke either.

We unfortunately didn’t get great news. She’s lethargic, can’t fly, vet weak, muscle waste, and such. She’s going to stay overnight at the vet. The labs to draw blood on very sick parrots we were warned has its own risks.

I’m so sorry to hear this. You and Kiwi are in my thoughts. šŸ’š

She’ll be in good hands, and at least at the vet she can rest. Her mate Charlie will never leave her alone to rest.

Is the vet an avian vet? Don't worry about the blood draw- yes, it has risks but that's the least of her problems right now. It's sounds like she's been sick for a while but hiding it well.
Maybe they should do an xray and ultrasound to look for masses. I'm pretty sure that's what my avian vet would do. He's done imaging on my birds many times.

it's good they're keeping her overnight for observation. They will keep her warm (very important for sick birds) and often they give fluids to hydrate by injecting the fluids subcutaneouly. My vet has tube fed my bird when he was too sick to eat.
My thoughts are with you and Kiwi.

She looks so cute sitting in the incubator. Try to relax. She's in good hands and they will do everything they can to save her. You're lucky to have good avian vet care available. So many people don't and when their birds get really sick they don't stand a chance.

There are exotic vets here. They said if things look worse tomorrow we will transfer her to more advanced care elsewhere it’s a place by referrals only specifically for parrots. We are doing labs, and observation here first. They will giving her fluids, and hand feeding her as she isn’t really eating or drinking. Tomorrow possible xray or ct depending.

They told me they have to send off the labs because they’d like better information then what they are able to run in house
