Parrots
Marcy - double yellow Amazon
Mac - blue front Amazon
Loki - rosefront conure
I adopted 2 Amazons and one of my favorite things to do with them is play music. They stop and listen and let me know if they like it or not, If they really like it, they start dancing across the perch. If they don't like it, they turn their backs to me. They don't like opera.

Now my new juvenile conure is completely different. She actually tries to chirp along and frankly she is a terrible singer. :( I did find some YouTube videos that sort of this background bird muzak that does relax her and doesn't try to chirp along.

So I am in the kitchen area and I try something new. I say "OK Google, play me some bird music." I was expecting some soothing bird muzak. I was shocked to hear some grunge music which I am not a real fan. Then all of the sudden I see 4 mynah birds outside by the window near where the music is playing. Their heads are all fluffed up. Loki, my conure, is also chirping along but this time she is actually improving the music in my mind. I gave her a few songs but decided I am not ready to be listening to a lot of grunge.

Not an important question and hope this thread is not a waste of time. But curious as to how other conures out there deal with different kinds of music. Of course Loki is still a juvenile and maybe her music tastes will get refined as she gets older. And maybe not try to chirp along with the music I like. I hope so anyway.

Full disclosure. I am a terrible singer and don't even try.

I apologize in advance to any fans of grunge music.

My husband and I listen to different things, anything from country to 50s rock, and some more modern stuff. My sun conure likes anything with a strong obvious beat. She will bob her head and peep along with the beat. Sometimes I think she has good taste, and then one day I'll be in the kitchen using my loud kitchenaid mixer, and there she is dancing along to the mixer. So who knows what she responds too. Just makes me laugh when she dances to what I perceive as just noise.

My conures all like different music :). Bindi will dance and “sing” to anything with a beat (rock, country, dance, metal). Tango likes big band, preferably with horns in it - and country. Baby likes country and most pop music. Stanley dances to rock and my singing (which is terrible). They do seem to take their queues from each other sometimes too.....if someone else is dancing, it must be good? :)

The Rb loves female voices, strong base beats, horns. He loved Paula Abdul in the 90's, has loved J-Lo since @2005 (does a horrifying version of her "Booty" hit on his YouTube), seems to like some current female rap...

I suspect it's a matter of experimenting to see what your little "audience" likes!

Oh that's amazing, I love this thread! We are experimenting with music with our GCC as wel now. He kind of likes hakuna matata from the lion king and wanna be like you from jungle book, he seems indifferent to metal for its musical aspects but seems to enjoy the noise/chaos aspect, and some songs of bob marley make him bob his head in appreciation. What he really digs though is when we sing to him, especially if the song involves whistling too. Then apart from head bobbing we can get some happy feet-stomps outta him :). It also goes for when we whistle along with existing music. We have started quite a ritual where he sits on our finger and we sing, whistle and dance around with the three of us, hehe..we still have to do more thorough research regarding music genres, though! Oh and he quite likes when I play the mandolin, excited screeches and head bobs with that one, too.

Leo tends to like things with a strong beat or rhythm, like Muse’s newest album or most things by EMIN. For some reason he hates most modern rock music (especially Bad Wolves!), which is disappointing, but no one is perfect. :)

Bluebell likes slower rhythms and female voices like Adele and Sia. She hasn’t shown a dislike to anything yet, but I’m sure I’ll play something funky eventually.

For some reason they both adore Lemon Boy by Cavetown.

They both love to fall asleep to instrumental movie/video game soundtracks. Detroit: Become Human and Spirited Away are the favorites recently, especially Little One and One Summer’s Day.

We have strange tastes in this household lol
