I'm trying to find the right parrot for me
I like Sun's and Jenday's but they really are too loud, so for me it's between a green cheek and a quaker parrot which makes a better pet? especially for a family life style i know green cheeks don't really talk but im used to a parrotlet and they do inflections so im not to picky, plus all because a bird can talk that doesn't mean they will,i know some people who have cockatoos and you can't understand a word they say.Advice, suggestions and stories are helpful thanks

Quakers can be just as loud as the Conures!!!! BUT between them, I choose Quakers over Conures. I raised one as a baby and I love him dearly....He's super smart too as most Quakers I know are very smart!

Why not a Senegal if noise is your issue. They are about the same size as the Conure and Quaker without the long tail. They are touted to be apartment birds, but to me no bird is an apartment bird. No matter what the breed you can get a noisy bird. So it's a crap shoot.

You can never estimate noisiness - only arm yourself in ways to train a bird not to make unneccesary noise.

It is easily done if you have the time and patience.

I agree with the senegal though.....very very sweet natured quiet birds as a rule.
Very inquisitive and cheeky too!

I can only comment on the Quaker and will say they are truly amazing little birds and very very smart! Our Poncho is soon to be 7yrs old in May and pretty much has something new to show or tell us everyday. Quakers are highly organized birds and are super talented at building things, yes I did just say building! Poncho literally makes forts out of his toys, the little guy has even mastered the ability of weaving items in and out through his cage bars and if you move one item he will put it right back where he originally placed it. Although he is also highly conversionally there are moments where he goes a little bizzerk, this only usually last a few minutes, but can be quite loud. In my opinion the pros out weigh the cons when it comes to a Quaker!
Awesome birds for sure :)

GC can and do talk very well and are not one of the conures that are known for screaming.

I don't know much about Senegal's are they good pets?

Isn't Quakers illegal in your state though?

No im allowed to own and sell Quakers

Yes, Senegals make great pets. If you go to Youtube, check out the Senegal Videos, especially the videos about Kili the amazing Senegal Parrot. I've only owned a Senegal for about 6 weeks, but know some people that have owned Senegals for years and love them. They are great talkers and very smart.

My Senegal Tiki is just now a year old and says "Pretty Tiki", Pretty Birdy, Hello, whata doin Tiki" and whistles up a storm.

I was debating the same thing you were when looking at birds, I actually ended up with a Pionus. They are super quiet, adaptable, easy going, and Bob (my dusky pionus) is great both in our apartment and at work with me everyday. Except today, he decided to take a vacation and stay home with my husband. :)

Very true!

Any bird, if it feels neglected or whatever the reason, can really ramp up the volume.

But, in my experience, three GCCs in unison can't match the volume of one sun conure...

I used to have a Senegal, which died after 10 years. :( She often made noises and imitated things, but almost never screamed.

Indeed, in 2007, it was 11PM and finishing a computer with parts I bought from CompUSA during their closing down clearance sale. I heard a loud crash noise -- Zoe had used a perch as a battering ram to get the front door open, escaped out of her cage, and waddled out to greet me. She was the sweetest bird... I should have gotten an autopsy as she died roughly a few months later. :(

I ended up getting a Senegal I love her!
