Worked closely with many species, birds with behavioral problems, and now birds of prey and other wildlife
I found this ad for a poor little Ekkie on Craigslist. I want to get her out so badly!!

OMG, I wanna cry. :( Now I know why I stay away from CL.

"Don't have time for HIM?????" Unbelievable! But just think how many birds (not just ekkis) are truly kept in those atrocious conditions, most of which we never hear about. :(

It just breaks my heart. And, for whatever reason, there is nowhere to reply. I really hope someone good got to her.

(Banging head into the wall).

WHY WHY WHY must people like this poor GIRL'S owner bring a bird home? Living in a parakeet cage, scrounging for seed on the floor, no idea of the species or gender.... UGH! I hope you can save HER.

"No really, it's the world's first transgender parrot. We name HIM Bruce!" :32:

Well, lets see, probably not from Australia, but it's possible...

Kept in a crappy tiel cage.

Seed diet (obviously)

Doesn't look like there are any toys.

Only perch I see fell down, and it's dowel.

And HE isn't green...

The price is within ballpark, assuming it's not going to cost you $3,000 in vet bills to fix what ever diet related issues this bird is going to turn out to have...

Nice, but I don't have time for him is usually Craiglist Speak for "HASN'T BEEN HANDLED IN YEARS. SHE BITES!"

Unless it's a macaw. Then it's Craigslist speak for "THIS BIRD BITES REALLY FRIGGIN' HARD, AND USUALLY ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO RIP MY NOSE OFF!"

There isn't any contact information on the original post but I found another post trying to get into contact with them. I shot them an email hoping to at least help educate the new owner maybe help with behavioral issues if they will let me. I am in no position to take her on myself but I sure hope I can find a way to help!!

She looks like an SI (correct me if I am wrong I am by no means an ekkie expert) so not even Australian!!! The only correct thing about the post is that the owner doesn't have time for her! She probably has a whole slew of health problems poor miss.

Your sadly right.

I seem to remember something along those lines being the reason a certain someone needed a new home:54: It translated (roughly) to: "This bird is meaner than a grizzly bear-rattlesnake hybrid, best of luck!".

Macaws don't take kindly to "I don't have time for you right now."

"You don't actually need both nostrils do you?! I mean if one of them happened to somehow accidentally get torn off your face... you could still breathe, right?!" :p

:D

"ain't got time for me?"...."Got time to bleed?" :red:

This so upsets me! I feel like I am watching old reruns of The Planet of The Apes, and we are watching the 'ignorant' humans being handled!

She actually looks like a RS to me (due to the yellow at the end of her tail).

How very, very sad...and surely there are many others out there in same or worse conditions...makes me pull Oliver even closer ...more hugs and kisses...

Sad situation :( If they don't even know she's a she how can they possibly have done a pinch of research on her diet, cage requirements, socializing, etc. Poor girl:(. That pic could be a poster for a animal abuse ad, sadly. I sure hope she is rescued.

Absolutely despicable on so many levels. Amazing how cruel and ignorant some folks can be.

My CL goffins was pretty much in the same shape. He just had a bigger cage, which was filthy and missing a leg. It was duct taped on, and had rust and cooking grease residue on it. He smelled like a fry cook that chain smoked cigarettes. He did have a toy, but it was a ratchet tool on a chain :(

Oh, that's awful. IF the owner had even cared at all, he would have IDENTIFIED what type of "parrot" he is. That is abusive on many levels. I feel so bad for that eke. =(
