Darbyan
After years of dogs and cats we took the plunge and got a young Darbyan a couple of days ago.
Hes about 5 months old and is settling in well (especially since we got him his chew toy)
Calls for us if we go into another room, likes to be admired etc.
He knows step up but obviously is currently ignoring us as we are new.
Want to let him out do we need to get him more used to hands first.

Picure to follow

Jasper (yellow-naped amazon)
Lilla (senegal parrot)
Snowberry (yellow-crowned amazon)
Cricket (pacific parrotlet)
If a bird is very skittish, I might wait a few days to let him out. If he somehow gets into a dangerous situation and is scared of hands, he might make the problem worse by trying to bite or fly away. But if he's just "okay" with hands, then it's fine to take him out. Besides, training works much better outside the cage, since there are less distractions like toys and food.

Would it be better to keep putting my hands in the cage to get him more used to it first?
Hes skittish, he's a happy parrot though first day he had some food. He's been calling, we have had some different noises and he loooove to be watched and talked too.
Should I get millet as a training food? His current food obsessions are kiwi and spinach

If you feel he needs more hand-taming work, do it. Feed him a favorite treat from the hands-in or out of the cage, whichever is better for him.

Depends on what he is more comfortable with, perch or hand. He's a stunning bird, by the way :)

Ok, if he doesn't seem better with either, do the hand. Perches tend to be more intimidating.

Thank you
Well young Monty is possessive over his toy

Absolutely loves it and was doing the aggressive wings partially out lunging when we moved it
Hes also shouting at crows that fly past
I wanted him out sooner cos cages seem cruel but another couple of days I think
