So in 3weeks time I will of landed in Australia!!!! I've been given to opportunity to do a potential year, working and holidaying!! The only problem is my beautiful blue fronted Amazon!! As she is somewhat temperamental my parents have said she can't stay at home and I've got to find a holiday home for her, purely because neither can handle her.
I found a lady locally that said she could help or knew someone that could, even got back to me saying it's all good to go, then nothing. In that time I emailed so called experts and recognised people in the parrot world here in the U.K, but no one ever got back to me, I got in touch with this lady again, suddenly all he 'friends' have said that because it's for a year they couldn't take her as a holiday, they would only take her full time.......... Dunno if these people are looking for a free bird or what but I know where they can go.

Am I being unreasonable asking someone to holiday for a year, is it u far on 'Blue'?? Should I be looking for another home for her??. I've had her 12years, in that time we've had massive ups and downs but she's a brilliant bird now, I love her to bits. I can't say she has the best life, but one day I was always hoping to be able to give it to her.

I dunno what to do?? With 2weeks really to get sorted, I'm at a loss!!!

Would appreciate thoughts/ ideas.

Oh man that's tough! I hope you can find a temporary home while you're gone. I don't know where you are located but maybe someone here on the forum is close and can help you with this.

I sympathize with an agonizing decision and appreciate your concern and efforts to find the best solution.

It is sad to contemplate parting with a beloved pet of 12 years when your absence is planned for just 1 year. I assume you have exhausted all other trusted family members and friends to take care of your Amazon. Are there any bird clubs that may be of assistance? Worst case scenario, are you able to pay a monthly fee to a caretaker (assuming one can be found) who will relinquish your bird upon return?

I wish you were over here in the US. :( As many of the people here on the forums know Bluefronts are my soft spot. I wish you the best of luck and I hope something can be worked out for you.

That is an agonizing decision:( I would perhaps offer up some kind of payment to whomever might take her to cover food, toys, care costs, their time ext..., provided they sign a legal agreement stating they will give her back at the end of the year. I sincerely hope you can find someone. Even if the worst case scenario happens, perhaps a local foster network would be able to help? Or bird club or even see if her vet may know someone? I hope you find someone.

Consider taking your Blue Front with you. Yes, time is short, but it may still be possible. Contact your airline and get going!

This is exactly what this lady offered me when I got in touch with her. Foster carers, the paperwork and the garentee that if things DIDNT work out at the othe carers that she would have her back instead of being moved on again. She wanted £1500 to look after her for a year. My aunty has a grey but it's fed a diet of sunflower seeds and peanuts!! It's also stuck out the back of an old farm house with little heating! Sooooo blue won't be going there.

I've 2options left really.

A guy at work said he'd take her and she could have the conservatory, but he has no parrot experience altho he's reared jackdaws and a few birds of prey when his dad kept them.
My other option is the vets....... I'll call them tomorrow and see. If Blue was somewhat sweeter natured she'd stay at home, that would be ideal, at least her little world won't turn totally upside down.

@Aquila blue fronts are beautiful birds, Im sooooo pleased she came into my life, especially when I was looking for conures to start with :green: :-)

Sailboat, unfortunately, Australia has banned the import and export of *ALL* parrots, including pets, so taking a parrot to Australia is out of the question for Bacon. :(

Bacon, sorry to hear you are in such a tough spot! I hope you are able to figure something out quickly!
