Dehydrated veg question?

So, I had made a huge batch of chop on Saturday, which U put in the dehydrator since I don't have room in the freezer to store big batches of chop. It wasn't fully dehydrated yesterday morning, so I left my husband in charge of putting it in an airtight container when it was done (I was gone all day on a day trip, the first time I have done ANYTHING fun in like 2 years, you'd THINK he could've helped with this one simple task). When I got home, naturally he had not put it up and it had been sitting in the dehydrator (fully dehydrated) for about 5-6 hours. I put it in an airtight container after that, but am wondering is it still safe to feed Kiwi after being exposed to the air for hours or should I just toss it? That's a lot of expensive organic veg to go to waste, but I also don't want to make the little guy sick either. Any ideas?

P.S. It was all raw produce (no blanching) with just lemon juice as the only "preservative" of any kind. I've made it numerous times before, but have always been very careful to get it sealed up right away.

I wouldn't worry, I have done something similar. If it was fully dried there is no chance of mold or fungus in such a short time especially since they were still spread out and shut up inside the machine. Dried fruits and veggies get put into containers around here but I don't put them in the frig since they are dry so they are at room temp anyway.

It felt fully dry (crunchy) when I got home. I guess I will just keep a close eye in case anything does start to grow:52:. It's about a months worth of chop (I re-hydrate a 'scoop' of it every night in addition to fresh, just for the greater variety and Kiwi rather enjoys it).

April, I'd feel comfortable with Laura giving advice for something like this. I bet the veggies came out delicious!

Lol, I have to laugh though... stuff like that is exactly why I was nervous to leave Don alone with MY birds last night and today. My mom went to the ER yesterday (she's okay), but I spent the day and the night with her, and I haven't been home yet to see my birds in about 24 hours, and still won't get home for several hours. Raven needs his twice a day meds, and Don called me saying he was unsuccessful... I told him you've got to just DO IT... Pretend your life depends on it!! LOL! Husbands :52:. Couples who are BOTH responsible for the birds are pretty lucky. ....I hope he remembers to lock all the cage doors before leaving to come get me! They won't destroy things, but I'd worry with the dog. Honestly it's situations like this where I do worry about being the SOLE caretaker.

I hope your mom is doing better. I have to agree anytime the critters welfare is left to the other half I am always sweating bullets!

I hope your mom is feeling better. Did poor Raven ever get his meds lol?

What is it with men lol? Joe likes to play with Kiwi, but he doesn't like to feed, clean or do any of the "hard work" Though I bet Kiwi enjoyed having Joe wake him up and feed him. He got to just eat seed and some of Joe's sandwich he made for lunch until "mean" mommy got home and gave him vegetables and nutritious food to eat:32:. Kind of like leaving a kid with their dad, and all they get to eat is pizza and candy And yes, it was a nice day out. I went with a vegan group up to a bunch of you-pick orchards so that was fun

Raven 'allegedly' got all his meds, after trying several times for 1/2 hour. First when he called he said he only got a few drops. That's when I told him he HAS TO catch him again to do it! He got bit hard by him for the FIRST time LOL!! Raven finally bit his favorite person!

As much as I hate the cleaning, I don't trust anyone else to do it the right way! Certainly not the feeding either. Laura, I DO sweat bullets if I can't be there to do things right lol.
