To sum up the detailed story I've posted in the conure section a few weeks ago, I found an abandoned sun conure found on the side of the road and have been taking of him. I'm a little concerned about this beak, everything else seems generally healthy, but his beak has never been that "pure black" I see in conure photos on google. It's very peely looking if that makes sense, and the black is kinda washed out on the beak color. What do you think?

(the images aren't the best quality because he is terrified of cameras so I have to use my phone since it's small.

His beak looks fine. The peeling is a natural process associated with healthy beak growth (it's kind of like how our fingernails will chip and peel). If you want him to have the "pure black" beak, take him to the vet for a cosmetic beak grooming (usually done at the same time as nails and wings). They will file down the chippy part and apply mineral oil. The mineral oil is non-toxic, but gives it that 'perfect' appearance your talking about:) You can also add a cement perch to his cage, which will help him file those rough edges down as they form.

Thank you so much, I had no idea you could do that. I was more concerned with the health part rather than physical appearance. He's getting his nails and wings trimmed tomorrow as I feel the wing trimming may help with training. He's pretty scared of people, but I want to help him.

Nothing a good dremmel can't take care of.

Give him some wood toys to chew and it will shave down those peeling edges. The beak is like our fingernails, always growing and renewing itself.

I will pry off some of Hahnzels loose edges until I can get him groomed.

Glad to hear you have decided to keep this little guy. He seems like he was meant to be with you;)

It's a really hard choice because I've been set on finding the original owner, but it's been almost four months now with nobody coming forward to claim their lost bird.

I was considering giving him away, but finding someone with the right experience was also hard, and this bird has been moving around many times before I came in and I felt him moving to yet another location with different people cannot be good.
