Domnijoe - The Art Studio and Bird Herder's Residence

I've used those bird carrying. I've used it horizontal and vertical. After placing the needed size perches, they works great. Unfortunately I have a disassembly expert. You can guess the results.

Well... It's been almost 6 and a half weeks with Yvons. He's brash, loud, and stunning. He's also almost opened up one of the food doors just now. It was my fault. I didn't close it properly.

Never a dull moment, LOL!

One of the games we play is one where Yvons makes a whistle that sounds like it's falling, and I go 'splat' when he's done. My friends get a kick out of it. I just wish he'd have enough bravery to play on the tabletop perch beside his cage. It could take a while, from what I've heard. I'm willing to be patient :D. Who knows. I could even get one of those fancy shmancy rolling floor ones. **Shrugs**

Dog just barked. It's 2:17 am. Heard, quietly, from Charlie: 'Shut up!'

Never, EVER, a dull moment, LOL!

Because I'm an insomniac (Sleep! Where art thou!) I thought I'd post more of the new travel carrier. Toy for an outing- check. Food and water bowls- check. Perch?.... Perch?.... Um... working on that.

FYI - the blue one in the first image is the carrier Yvons was shipped in. It'll be given an overhaul - cleaned up and made slightly more bird-friendly :)

Glad Yvonn is starting to fit in. 😄. Don't worry about sleeplessness. I just spent the night waiting for near dawn. Then I can get up without being told...go to the bathroom...good night... go to sleep....did you go to the bathroom....see you in the morning...etc. It's kinda annoying and funny. Nameliss haa a weird night ritual. Try as I might, I can't figure out how she settled on it.

Has Yvonn made any other verbal statements? Started to wonder since he seems to be settling in.

Yvons has muttered some stuff that I couldn't quite catch. I think he said 'hey (butt)hole' yesterday, LOL. Otherwise, he's been an utter sweetheart. Sadly, I couldn't take him out of his cage yesterday (Had food bank) and today (Utterly exhausted, though I may let him out of his cage late). The little brat is up at 6 in the morning, while the others are up by 7-7:30 am.

ETA: He tried taking a chunk out of me just now, LOL. I was setting up his cage door to stay open, and he lunged out like a little rocket. Good thing he missed! He's being let out of his cage later than usual, so he might be miffed at that. Silly bird!!

Nameliss mutters or verbalizes things I don't understand. Then she starts speaking new (to me) statements or sounds. I've wondered if that is a parrot precursor to mimicking. 0600 is close to sunrise this time of year. So that's a normal wake-up time. Nameliss is up at dawn year round. I'm happy in winter with later sunrises. I'm glad she doesn't yell for me to get up with the outside birds. Nameliss can be aggressive about her cage territory. It's second nature for me to watch her attitudes. It's worse when she's in hormonal or jealous moods. The two of you are approaching the limit setting stage. Parrots, all sizes, are smart. Smarter then pups. They will train their human pets. The human will think the reverse. Have you determined what his favorite distractions are? Nameliss is a TV, movie junkie and a disassembly addict. Finding toys to satisfy, challenge and distract her is ongoing. Yvonn probably needs distraction more. He's had turmoil in his living situations. Keep up the good work.

Yvons likes to watch Facebook clips and ghost-hunting shows with me. I'm planning to get a floor rolling stand to cut down on the territoriality with the brat. I hope he'll use it. I watch a lot of nature shows, animal grooming clips, AND ghost hunting shows on both Facebook and YouTube. It'll be some time before I realize what he adores. :D.

LOL! I have so much I need to get for the birds and a new litterbox for the cats. Then I can start putting my dog in the bedroom with the cats when the birds are out and about. The dog likes to surf litterboxes for kitty box crunchies and eats them in my bed. Ick. So I've got to find a litterbox that will dissuade the little brat. That's why I've not done the bedroom time out sooner! Otherwise, she's on a leash when the birds are out. She's well behaved... until the birds flap. Then she flips out. Can't wait to get her into the bedroom.

Ugh... I was so sick on Thursday. I won't describe the number of times I 'tossed my socks off', except it was LOTS. Yesterday I finally had Yvons out again in the eve. He's starting to puff up when I put him back in his cage. Little snot's getting attitude, LOL! It feels good being better!

No one's touched the new play stands yet. AT least not on their own. Once I can focus again, I'll put the birds on the play stand by themselves. Gotta make sure Winter stays out of the way, tho.

Glad you're doing better. Nameliss knows me very well. If I am legitimately ill; I get kisses, soft voice, gentle beak caress and more. If I am mallingering; loud noises, yelling, smoke or fire alarms etc. I don't know how she knows the difference. As for Yvonn dropping almonds. I think it's a bird thing. Nameliss loves pecans, almonds etc. But she'll drop some to get the 'one' that passes inspection. Then she'll go to bottom; pick up, return to perch and eat.

At the moment at Domnijoe Pets 'N Art: Cats are stoned.. I mean, they had their catnip. Birds got new foraging toys with treats. Vortex is in her glory. Yvons was thrilled to get more almonds. Charlie and Red are still dropping their old toy to the bottom of the cage and haven't decided whether they want the treat in the middle or not. It'll take the old farts a few days to figure THAT out, LOL! The dog is also in heaven, feeding off all the birds and cats.
THIS is why I love my animals.

How are your neighbors since ypu got Yvons?
So far, no complaints to my face from either the neighbors (I think it's a married couple) or the landlord. I hope the coast is clear. I hear them complaining to each other at 3 am about how I was yelling at the dog, and the cats were making a racket at 3am. They sometimes mention Yvons' whistling, but I'm actively trying to keep him asleep from 9:30 pm to 8 am. Otherwise, He's up at 6 am.

As far as my neighbors are concerned, this is the least problematic my neighbors have been. I had neighbors-as-landlords who fought all night with each other to see if they should get rid of me. Because my birds - all cockatiels and 2 green cheek conures- 'smelled'. I had a cleaning person come over once a week, and I cleaned the cages once a day. Then the mice came. They said reduce the birds you have. They checked my cage, and it never smelled. The mice got bad. They said either the birds go, or you go. I said... when do you want me out? They were good landlords, but my god. Paranoid about the smell of everything. The wife was a real two-faced (censored), tho. Behind my back, she said all sorts of things, but was nice as pie around me. She used to sing for the church nearby, and she said the birds made too much noise for her to sing and concentrate.

I lasted there 2 years. If I can keep my life calm for another 6 months, I'll be thrilled. :) Then I'll have been at this place for 2 years!

OH! Forgot to mention, got the busted travel cage all wired up and zip tied properly. Cleaned out Yvon's old carrier. Need 1 more carrier for the cats and I'm good to go!

Gotta love zip ties!
I'm glad your neighbors have been okay.
The mouse problem must have been a nightmare. I'm very lucky that when my husband built our house 8 years ago he had it spray foam insulated. Mice and other vermin can't penetrate spray foam. I never even get ants and I live in the woods! If mice could get in I would have a big problem here with all my budgies and all their food! Once you get mice there almost impossible to get rid of for good.

Guess who went to lash out to bite me (and missed)? Then called me an A$$hole? Yvons. This is my first experience with grey intelligence. He must have been called that in his old home when he was crazy...

Grey are too intelligent and appropriate. I gave up swearing before purchasing. But swear words creep in especially from TV, movies, anime etc. They can spot an insult 40 miles away! What's hard is when your CAG puts seemingly unrelated words together. New Dog: Miss Key plus Older Cat: Doolittle equals DooKey aka poop. Try ignore or redirecting. Elephants have nothing on parrot memory especially a breed noted for emotional tendency like CAG.

Caught Charlie saying ' Peanuts!' today. He mumbles 'Almond', but it's clear enough to make it out. He's started saying it since I got Yvons, and I always give roasted peanuts or sliced almonds to them once a day. ALso.. Someone out of the bunch said 'veggies'. No idea who. They get their cooked, frozen veggie mix during the day.

Yvons lunged again today, but it was a firm shove masked as a bite. A hard no to him stepping up on a stick for me. So no playstand time. Poor brat, LOL!! I found a way to change the toys in his cage - go through the top! I forgot I had an 'open top' cage! I usually use the door! I have some shreddables for him now in the cage. He's not touched the one perch at the top of his cage for 2 months. Weird. Most of my other birds would have chewed a hole in it by now, LOL! He prefers the rope perch in the cage on the door and the dowel by the food bowls. He knows food and treats are sometimes offered on his flat perch, so he'll hesitantly use that.

So yeah. Tuesday marks 2 months with Yvons. He's a hoot!!
