There is some speculation as to the kids video being real, but the hawk video is.

That video of the eagle snatching the baby is a hoax .It has been on the news all morning. It was done by some students in Canada using special effects and computers.

Confirmed, eagle video is a hoax.


The hawk video however is *NOT* something that would naturally occur. Yes, it has, but the video depicted shows two zoo animals, so the hawk is obviously a trained animal of the zoo's. If Flash, the hawk, didn't get out early, this incident would have probably never occurred.

Generally speaking, wild birds of prey will not come close enough to humans to snatch an animal... but a bird that is starving will. Just please do not use that video as an "accurate representation" of how a wild bird of prey will act.



Unfortunately, there are dangers inside the home as well as inside. I don't think there is any way to fully, 100% protect our fids without compromising on their health and happiness.


And there is an actual footage of an eagle attacking a young child. Although, this is an eagle that is trained to hunt by humans, so is used to being around humans. Again, not something that would typically happen with a wild bird of prey that is not used to humans.

The eagle video in the first post is totally fake, I'm baffled as to why it was even in the news. The second video is of golden eagles that are trained to hunt wolves and foxes. Golden eagles are powerful and could kill a small child if they wanted to.

These guys have a great bond with their birds. They take the eagles from their nest before they can fly and raise them. I don't agree raiding eagle nests, but at least the birds are socialized with people and are well cared for.

As for birds of prey...I see many photos on this sight of people with their birds in trees and sitting on outdoor perches. A hawk, or an eagle depending on where you live WILL strike these unprotected birds. Telling people it can never happen isn't the truth. My cousins cockatiel got out and was sitting 3 feet away from him on a tree branch when a hawk landed and ate the cockatiel right in front of him as he looked on horrified and unable to do anything about it.

And your entire hawk video only reinforced this truth.

Another thing to be aware of is the larger number of falconers, my friends dad fly's his hawks and falcons on the hills near my house and they would have no fear at all if they saw me with Rosie. They may fly several miles away from him before returning. His peregrine is a bit lazy and enjoys sitting on people's houses, imagine if that was your house and your parrot was out back on a perch!

I never do. I always have my birds near me and under constant supervision while outside. In Florida, we have lots of snakes, large rats, and other vermin not to mention other flying birds.

One day while sitting at the computer with one of my birds on my shoulder, I heard something tapping on the window directly across from my computer. I looked up and saw a large black snake tapping on the window glass as if trying to find a way into the house. He was close to 6 feet long. I left my bird and went outside and grabbed a shovel that I keep near the door and took care of the snake.

I prefer just to run snakes off, but my wife is deathly afraid of them and I figure better safe than sorry since the snake could hang around and make it's way into the house by way of an open door.

When going out, he remains in his travel cage.

Please don't misunderstand what I said... The video *IS NOT* an accurate representation of *WILD* birds of prey. The hawk in the video *IS NOT* wild. He is a trained zoo animal. If he did not come out of his hatch earlier than planned, the hawk would have never tried to attack the cockatoo.

In other words, it's not common for birds of prey to come close to humans to snag an animal.


But please also understand that I did say that hungry birds of prey *WILL* take a small animal that's near a human. It's not common, but it does happen.
