Hi guys, got a question that I wanna ask.

Can I check you why all of the DYHA's eyes are orange-yellow while mine is not full orange-yellow? There's like a white ring in the eyes. Is it normal? Thanks.

Are you talking about the white eye ring? All DYHA have those.

The intense orange/red eye color will develop as they mature.

Looky, this is my Sam at just under a year.

Here he is at a little over 18 months:

And this pic was taken 2 months ago (Sam isn't quite 3 yet there)

I see.

Will the orange-yellow color become more intense? My Coco's eye color is much more paler than Sam when his under a year old. The orange-yellow part is very very pale to the extend that there's a white ring.

Hmm....I can't say I've ever seen DYH with any amount of 'white' directly IN the eye itself. Is it possible for you to take a close-up photo of the eye(s) and post pictures?

Cataracts?!

Amazons get them, usually when they are older. I had a 60 year old foster with cataracts...

How old is this bird, do we have a pic, and has he seen a vet, does he seem "slow" in responding to visual stimulation?

Barney the GCA has a cataract in one eye. It was never a "ring" though, it started as a small dot in the center of his pupil and grew into a bigger circle, like in a human.

Yeah, the description was off, but sometimes people don't describe things all that accurately. I thought I'd throw that out there...

It is something older amazons commonly get.

He posted a pic in his other thread when he asked about which subspecies it was. In that picture the iris looks the same color as the beak.

I see what he is saying now. It just looks like a light colored eye, where the normal orange part of the eye ring is.

Could be just a young bird. I don't see any real health concern... The eye is a lighter color than usual. Doesn't mean there's a problem though.

I was picturing something else entirely in my mind.

Ah sorry for the confusion but yeah it's something like what akrrm has mentioned.

Coco's eyes are kinda light in color. Coco's is around 1year + old.

So I shouldn't be too paranoid over the eyes color? Will the light color turns more orange-yellow?

Thank you guys!

Should get darker somewhere around the 2 year old range, but color varies slightly from bird to bird, so how dark dark will be... we don't know yet.

Thanks for the reply.

Hope to see my own DYHA transformation.

Is it a spoke like opacity in the eye? If yes it could be a cortical cataract. Just a friendly suggestion :)

Here's a photo of my Panazon Lolita's eye at about a year,
