Im considering adding a bird to our "flock". Partly because I think Wrangler needs a buddy, but partly because I want one too. Im still not 100% there yet, but starting to look around and get informed. I've got a short list of birds but the top two are either Jardine or (un)Cape aka Brown necked/gray headed parrot. What Ive neglected to find out is how ekkies are ---in general--- with other birds. I know each one is different but I ruled out Senegals and a few others because they are stereotypically a bit bird aggressive. Any input anyone has about my top two and of course about Ekkies and other birds would be appreciated.

Hi coopdup I do have an ekkie (ruby) and a cockatiel but I understand that the way she reacts with my cockatiel would be very different to a larger parrot. So I have messaged another person with a wide array of larger parrot species including eclectus. Their birds get to mix and mingle all the time so hopefully they will be able to better answer your question. If they get back to me I will post what they said to me regarding your question. Goodluck and have a great day. :)

I've never mixed, just what I have heard from others, and that's ekkies more broadly don't quite get along with other species. Of course there are MANY exceptions, each is an individual. But I have heard this said before.

I had a female Eclectus with a Slender Billed Cockatoo. At first the Ekkie was indifferent, but finally warmed up to the Too's attempts to be friends.

As far as Poicephalus go... yes typically, they are aggressive with other birds, but my Ruppell's Parrot (Poicephalus) is very social, and "begged" my Pionus to be his friend. Now they're bff's and a completely odd couple species wise for sure. My Red Bellied Poicephalus on the other hand hates other birds.

Our female Eclectus (Ruby) is fine with our male Indian Ringneck (Jessie) Ruby was hand raised by us and Jessie has been around from the start. I guess Ruby doesn't know any different but to have Jessie constantly trying to steal her food and regurgitate for her. But once Ruby has had enough of Jess she does let him know. Sometimes with a tail grab etc. But like you have already said.. All birds are different. I think its a gamble if any 2 birds will get along. Hope this helps
