I am so excited to have my baby home this weekend! He's from T&D Aviary and they should be calling me any time now with his flight information. [emoji16]

Sun Conures - you can see his progression photos there. He's the "Memphis" baby.

I got just about everything ready for his arrival. The only thing really still left to go is his food... I purchased some Harrisons which arrived, however I also placed an order with Goldenfeast which, after 7 days, is still "processing." Interesting, as they didn't mind quickly "processing" my payment! Oh well... [emoji35]

Have you cooked or made any goodies for your baby yet? Goldenfeast is AWESOME food, it truly is, and I bet it’s because of the Holidays that things are delayed.

No, I haven't made anything yet. I'm not really the DIY type. I would love to learn though, and have been browsing the forums for ideas for fun toys.

And yeah, I figured the holidays have stuff behind. I am really excited for the Goldenfeast to come, though. I got the Goldn'Obles II and the Conure Blend. It's actually not terribly expensive for what you get. My dogs get premium food too. My pets eat better than I do!! Although I have decided that since Eli will be getting daily fresh offerings, that I pledge to eat healthier myself in the new year. I figure it's easy to just cut up some peppers and stuff that I'm using for dinner and give it to him too. ☺

Edit: I credit this forum for possibly already saving his life. I found out about teflon toxicity and today I'm heading to the store to purchase stainless steel pots and pans and throw away all my non stick cookware!!

Congrats on your new fids! Boy are you in for an adventure! LOL. Sunnies will keep you on your toes, that's for sure.

A fellow forum member had recommended 'My Safe Bird Store' a short while back when I was looking for some things for Skittles.

They have a great selection of 'safe' toys and what not and their prices are very reasonable, considering. I'd check them out.

I'm glad to hear you got Harrisons for your sunnie! It truly is an exceptionally healthy food diet for them.

I would however ensure that you have some other alternatives just in case your sunnie refuses to eat the Harrisons. I've never had that problem, but I have heard of others that have.

I'd also add fresh fruits, veggies and grains to your sunnies diet (organic if you can get it/afford it). Stick with the 'meaty' fruits (mango,papaya,starfruit etc) as well as the green/orange veggies (carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes) and whole grain pasta. Any fruit/veggie rich in Vitamin A is great for your bird.

In case you didn't already know, though, avoid Avocado and anything containing it. It's toxic for birds.

Thanks. I do have an alternate lined up, as soon as the Goldenfeast arrives, that is. In the meantime, if he refuses the Harrisons then I can get Roudybush DM at my work.

I've had budgies and cockatiels before, but nothing like a conure. I'm so nervous and excited at the same time.

(Also headed to Home Depot this weekend to get a couple pair of gun range earmuffs for those times when he decides to sing us the song of his people )

Random question, but I've booked an appointment with the avian vet on Monday just to rest assured that he shipped okay and is happy and healthy. Are their any particular questions I should ask that I might not be thinking about?

Glad to hear that. If you look on the back of the Harrisons bag, they do give instructions for conversion to their pellets. Just be sure to monitor his weight and ensure he IS in fact eating.

As for the avian vet, I would just tell them he is new to you and whatever history you have on him. Try to give the vet as much information as you can about his current living conditions and diet etc. They can help you interpret things but also give you recommendations.

I would suggest having a gram stain done but the avian vet may already have that planned as it is typical. It's a way for them to determine the amount and type of bacteria that may reside in the birds intestinal system. It's a great indicator of health.

I'd make a list between now and then as questions pop up.

Glad you are aware of the 'song of their people' lol. They ARE loud, but not necessarily noisy.

I'd only had budgies and cockatiels for the most part before getting Skittles. Suns are VERY expressive and will have no problem letting you know what they think.
