Jillie is so beautiful. She hadn't gotten her bath yet and has her breakfast on her beak but she is still my stunning diva girl!

In case anyone is wondering Gidget my Red Sided gal is at my breeder friends house. She is still mine but we are trying to get her better with the whole flock thing. My friend has 12 foot flights for her eclectus! She would go after Jillie and Jillie maybe smaller but she takes guff from NO ONE! I was really worried someone was going to get hurt. So while I was really sick (much better now) she came and got her for me. The other factor is Gidget's mom is owned by my friend and is really up to retirement age from breeding. She is great though once her pairs retire they still live out their lives with her with no expectations she has a 40 yr old pair of macaws that haven't laid in years and are still provided the best loving care.

I am now at odds with what to do. At one time I really was excited to set up pairs and co-parent with them, owning our home and my husband no longer moving us for his work got me thinking of breeding again. I have seen eclectus pairs that will lovingly allow this and the babies are so well adjusted but frankly I don't know if it's just this surrounding area but I have seen so many eclectus that were not being properly cared for that I have lost all desire to breed. It would truly break my heart to find out one of my babies ended up in situations like I have heard of around here.:(

It was mentioned in Stephen's post about Jolly how hard it must be for me to hand raise a baby and let it go but that is what I did for many years with many types of parrots. While it is never easy to see them go I knew that Jolly would continue to receive the same kind of love and care he got from me. To be honest I know Stephen thought I was bias about how wonderful Jolly was but I take great pride in raising awesome, social healthy babies and I knew once he had him a while he would see I wasn't actually bias.:p Unfortunately though I am finding that there are just not a ton of great homes out there for eclectus and I don't want to further over burden the world with more babies just because I would love to raise them. So I am a little sad over this but feel in my heart it is the right decision.

If Jillie starts egg laying I will replace them with duds, let her sit, but no babies.

Here she is...Miss Universe herself!

Gorgeous, GORGEOUS Jillie Girl!!! :D

Jillie is beautiful as always, Laura! Feel free to keep those pics coming!

Stunningly beautiful girl! The blue iridescent eyeliner is very attractive!

Jillie has a great makeup artist! :D

Jillie is a stunner. It's probably all the good stuff in her breakfast that she is so iridescent. Her blue looks like it's GLOWING. The love and care you give your birds shines through. Thanks for sharing (and don't be afraid to post more:))

Oh Laura, she is gorgeous! If only all parrots were so loved and gently trained....

I'm sorry about your sad decision and I certainly can't presume to give you advice, but I will say I admire you so much for always thinking first of the birds' welfare.

Please post all the photos you want, I could look at Jillie's pretty face all day.

Jillie is absolutely STUNNING Laura! Obviously very well taken care of and loved :)

Thank you Allee, It's disappointing because I know that I raise the sweetest, social babies, abundantly weaned and allowed to truly fledge and there are so many breeders that don't but the heartbreak I would feel if I found out one of my babies were not being taken care of properly weighs too heavy on my heart. From what I have seen and heard of in this area it is too big a risk, so the decision is firm.

I will still consider hiring myself out to hand feed and wean a baby for someone if the opportunity arises but I do not want the added responsibility of breeding. I have never shipped babies which while it would open up a broader market and the likelihood of finding better homes that is something I was NEVER able to do. Frankly I would be a wreak putting a baby on a plane even weaned. (I never let one go unweaned). I always wanted to meet in person the family that would be taking a baby I raised. :)

That's one very beautiful Ekkie......Good job in the care of her...!! It shows brilliantly!

Wow Laura she's a total looker!

It's evident by your decision that your heart is truly big ...but if it's any consolation there are so many on this forum...with all the different species...that truly love their birds and take very, very good care of them and your socialized birds are probably also well taken care of by most....

Tough decision I'm sure...
