I can't remember where I read this story, but the gentleman in question was showering with his bird (a macaw if memory serves) and the bird slipped off its shower perch and on his way down, grabbed onto the only other "perch" it could find... Can you imagine? A startled, flapping bird clinging on for dear life? :22_yikes:

Well, actually what happened was that my dusky was sitting on his shower perch up high, where it wasn't wet, wanting his morning shower...

And there was a perfectly good alternate "human" shower perch under the water, where he wanted to be... (I did myself first, then them.) So, rather than wait any longer, he decided to fly down to the shower perch under the water...

Well, those sharp conure claws made THAT PARTICULAR perch collapse immediately... (Can you say SHRINKAGE?!)

And when it did, he hung on by his beak from the tip of my "man perch" and was flapping his little wings just as hard as he could and trying to "swing" his little legs up to something solid...

SO, YES, AS A MATTER OF FACT I HAVE HAD THAT PARTICULAR PLEASURE, AND THANK GOD IT WAS "ONLY" A CONURE, GIVEN THE OTHER BIRDS THAT HAPPENED TO BE IN THE SHOWER WITH ME THAT DAY! Only it wasn't so much a bite, as it was a little dusky conure holding on for dear life!

Needless to say, it friggin' hurt!

For awhile, my red fronted macaw... who is a lap bird... drove me NUTS when he discovered pants zippers... or more specifically, discovered that he had the power to bite them in half!

"HOLD STILL, I ONLY WANT THE ZIPPER... DON'T MAKE ME GET ROUGH WITH YOU!"

NOW MIND YOU, MAGGIE'S BEAK IS APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES THE SIZE OF SWEEPEA'S BEAK...

Ugh, yes...my cocockatiel Astrid has an exceedingly sharp little beak, and once I made the foolish mistake of letting her hang out on me while I wasn't wearing enough, erm, "protection". The logo on my shirt was apparently fascinating, and demanding chewing. You can imagine what ensued.

Many birds are fine with it; taking a regularly scheduled, normal shower and letting your fids join in is a time-saving way of giving them their required baths. I do it with Sakura, with no issues. She just sits on the curtain rod, then I get her on my arm and give her a few minutes of shower time. I don't put her close to my body, though, just hold her on my arm while I angle the spray at her.

I don't think it is "weird"...to an animal, nakedness is normal. A body is a body.

Just part of my morning routine. I had 11 birds at the time, all of whom loved daily baths. The easiest way to do that was to just have shower perches, and when I took my morning shower, so did they. We alternated between birds. So it was about four or five at a time. Then they went back, and I made breakfast for everyone, took my daugher to school, and myself to work.

That way, I had more time on the weekends for "weekend stuff."

So, it was just part of my daily routine... nothing weird about it. My birds loved showers, and it's good for them. The easiest way to do that is if you are in there with them. And who showers with clothes on?!

In over a decade doing that we had ONE incident... ONE... and in retrospect it is kinda funny, now... though at the time it happened NOT SO MUCH!

And as for the other, I surfed for over 25 years. Getting in and out of wetsuits in the parking lot with just a towel wrapped around your waste, and strangers on the beach (some of whom were obviously watching) also fell within my definition of normal...

While I am not an exhibitionist, at some point, you do kind of have to just get over it.

REALLY?! Ummm... You can train a parrot to do a lot of things, but I think this would not only be impossible, it would be MIGHTY PAINFUL!

My birds didn't care if I was naked. They cared about "their turn" in the water.

Nothing sick took place, or was ever contemplated. It's just normal grooming, and when you have 11 birds, if you sit there with a misting bottle, it would take you about 3 hours to spritz them good... and your hand would be arthritic by the time you finished...

I bathe everyday. The birds want to, and it's good for them. The math is pretty simple on this one.
