My red lored amazon chico warmed up to me after 2 weeks and has let me pet him several times. I was so excited I was acting like a little kid yelling for Tammy to come look. The woman we got him from said he never let her pet him, although I'm starting to think she didn't really spend enough time. After I get home from work I constantly talk to my zons telling them how beautiful they are. If I wasn't hooked before, I definitely am now. Just waiting on my mealy max to let me touch him. He will take a peanut out of my hand.

Oh hes pretty!! Glad you got a picture of him with his colors. Wheres his toys?

I'm working on getting him some more. He has two small ones on the other side of his cage. Also working on getting him a new cage like max has. I've been looking at some of the homemade toys on here and another website that has a huge selection of diy toys. I work at a scrap yard so I've already brought home a good bit of stainless steel chain to start with

We put grapevine in mines cage and he goes to town on it :)

yes i take the leaves off.Make sure you get them from a pesticide free area.I got my zon 2 months ago [hes older] he came from a cage that had one toy in it and it was stripped to the bell.He must have been so bored! I had at home for him a corner cage [it doesnt go all the way to the floor] good for foot toys. I filled it with toys.He liked to chew so he liked the wood leather and wyfflle toys the best ,also a swing and more perches. Interesting seeing a bigger bird play on its back with foot toys:)

Glad their settling in well in their new home! As others have noticed, there doesn't seem to be a lot of toys and I also see they don't have many perches either. I know your still getting everything together for them, but I do have a few suggestions for getting those cages in good shape to be a proper home for a zon. While it's not doing damage in the short term, they do need some variety of perches in their cages here soon. Parrots can develop terrible arthritis in their feet if they spend too much time on straight dowels. Most pet stores sell a good variety of natural branches of bird-safe woods (or you can make your own, if you have bird-safe woods growing naturally like manzanita in your area), as well as rope perches and natural-shaped cement/grit perches. I highly recommend you change up those perches here in the next few weeks to get their feet on proper surfaces. As for the toys, there are the ones they sell in the store and ones you can make at home. I personally only buy the acrylic type toys that will last forever, and avoid the shreddable ones (it's like giving them cash to shred). For chewing, Kiwi gets sterilized manzanita chunks (it grows everywhere here), toilet paper/paper towel rolls, and stuff like empty cracker/cereal boxes. Many parrots also like baby toys like the fake keys and rattles, which can be bought for next to nothing at thrift shops/yard sales (be sure to sterilize by boiling).

My mealy has 4 different size perches . My red lored needs some news ones, which I knew but I haven't been able to get yet.
