I've had Yoshi for a couple of weeks now and he refused to get into any water. I got a spray bottle and sprayed him down a couple days ago and he didn't like it one bit. So I took him into my bathroom sink and ran the water over him. He didn't really seem to like it, but yesterday when I did the same thing, he walked right under the water and sprayed it all over me with his wings :D

So now he loves bath time, and gets everything in the bathroom wet everyday. I never realized how ragged his feathers were getting until his bath, because they look amazing now.

Now I wish I took pictures, maybe tomorrow I'll post some.

Quick question, he was sneezing a lot (I assume that's what it was) while he was bathing. Is it just because water gets into his nostrils (not sure the birdy term)

EDIT: I didn't see any unusual discharge, I know that's one of the warning signs of something bad.

Both my red fronts sneeze sometimes when they first get in the shower- it's just the water. Erin used to actually pick her nose :P

It's normal to sneeze. They are just getting the water out of their nostrils. Try bringing him in the shower with you. My Lucy loves coming in the shower. We have a shower perch for her to sit on and she just hangs out while I do my routine. Then I hold on to her and let the water fall on her feathers. Just don't put Yoshi directly under the stream of the shower cuz it can be too rough.

I put mine on the shower floor and she walks right under the water and sit there with her eyes closed forever if you let her :)

What temperature can they handle? Should it be cool/warm/hot? So far I've been using cool water in the sink, because that's probably how it is in the wild.

depends on your bird. I love my showers steaming hot so I went from cool-warm- hot GRADUALLY, but I dont keep her in hot water long though- I'm afraid the steam will make it hard to breathe. Then again my bird shivers if it isn't at least 75 degress- like me :) lol

YEAH! so hapy that you finally found something that works!

Sarah has bath issues too. We have to put her in a travel cage and then put the cage in the shower. She just stays in a corner with her eyes closed, but i am not sure if she really "likes it".

I'll try a sink next :white1: :)

Sounds like bath time is now fun time, wish I could teach my teenagers the same thing it's easier to train a bird to bath then a teenager of the human kind lol.

I had to wash my hands the second day so I set him on a towel rack next to the sink and he watched me wash my hands before I tried to get him under the water. After I played in the water, he wanted to too :p

Birdy loves to stand on top of the shower when I'm in there, but he never liked the water. After 1 or 2 weeks of him coming home, he had still not had a shower and was pretty smelly so I decided to find out what worked best.
The first time I held him under the shower head (his back only - his head was kept dry) he didn't move or make a sound, but he was noticeably unhappy with what I was doing. He stepped up and out of the water as soon as I gave him the opportunity.

After browsing the forums I discovered misting with a spray bottle, so I went out and bought a cheap spray bottle and set it to the finest spray. I sprayed it above him and let it fall on him. He hated this even more then the shower and thought I was punishing him for some reason.

Weeks after I got him I finally discovered he liked the coldest running water from the kitchen sink. Even in the middle of winter.
Madness :p
