I want to put down new lineolium in our kitchen. I need to get 2 pieces [cant do one] So im going to have to glue them down with the adhesive. Im worried about the adhesive hurting the birds [even though their in a sepperate room sealed off] Does anyone know anything about this ? Thanks

I had the linoleum replaced in a rental apartment I owned and had to put the tenants up in a hotel when they complained they were getting physically sick from the fumes of the adhesive.... I went to check and see what they were complaining about..after 5 minutes in the apartment I started to get a headache.. Don't know what the installer used but it was very strong..took two days for the smell to subside

Better safe than sorry. I'd find someplace out of the house, for a few days, for the fids. I moved mine to family & friends houses when I had my floor replaced.

Guys, I might use something else then what do you think ?

I installed laminate in my bird room.. It's rugged, cleans nice , no solvent or out gassing..

You can install vinyl (linoleum is an antiquated product) flooring with a water based adhesive that hardly has any odor & is safe around birds (just be sure to roll out all bubbles with floor roller or hand roller).....also, today you can install a loose-lay vinyl (no glue)...you just remove & reinstall the shoe moulding or base moulding after you lay & trim the vinyl, to keep the edges from curling.....don't forget to lift and/or replace thresholds & doorsills to finish those edges.....

Linoleum used to be installed with petroleum based adhesives.....

One other thing, if you can see the impression of any old nailheads in your current flooring, remove them & replace with flooring screws, being careful to make sure the screws are perpendicular to the floor & heads are flush with the sub-floor.....simply hammering old nails back down will allow them to work back up & most likely damage your new flooring.....

Be sure you use the proper trowel, with the notching specified on the label, if you install yourself & if you have it installed, make the installer show you the glue & insure it is water based before they install.....

id go with laminate it is soo easy and comes in some very nice styles.

I just finished my Bird Room construction about 3 weeks ago. Laminate flooring is the way to go my friend!!! I started out going to a flooring shop for vinyl flooring, either the 12"x12" peel and stick squares or for sheet roll vinyl. The salesman showed us what he had. I had a price goal in mind. I was VERY disappointed at what the cost would've been plus like you said, I would've had to piece the flooring if I went with the roll stock. The sales man led us over to the Lamiante floor section .... I'm thinking, this guys is trying to make a huge sale here today. Boy was I wrong! I ended up with Laminate flooring for $0.99 s.f. NOTHING comes that cheap. Laminate will out last vinyal by far. Mine had a 15 year warranty for residential use, some have up to 25 years. Maintenance is SUPER NICE. I bought a dust buster that loks like a sweeper, made by Bissell, that the handle even collaspes in half so you can roll it under the cages without bending over. Wipe ups of poop is VERY easy with a wipe.

It was EASY to install. This was my very first project doing laminate.... EASY.

Here's a panaramic photo of my finished Bird Room. (Yes, I know .... the one cage desparately needs replaced. Next on the list.)
