HI,everyone I recently brought home Chiquita and I have noticed that there is a lot of fluffy white feathers on the cage floor.Or for example she is preening and suddenly they just flutter out.None of her normal feathers just the downy white stuff. This has been happening since day 1 .Is this normal or should I be concerned?
thanks any help is appreciated

It must be the time of year!! I have this with Codie at the moment as well.

Molting :) its perfectly normal

They are the down feathers that are there to keep them warm by covering up the tiny bare areas in between the "normal" feathers. When it's warmer the tend to drop more down feathers.

I know that Bert is molting at the moment, my house and his cage are covered in them! I could collect them and make a tiny pillow! ;)

Right? I know if i pick up every feather echo has dropped i could easily make a small scarf or something. I clean my room ( his cage is in my room) almost every day and i'll leave for like 5 minutes and come back and there are feathers on the floor -.-

Diesel is just the same. We call them 'fluffles'. Soooo soft!
If I was clever I'd follow a jungle flock of Alexandrines and collect the fluffles to make the softest, lightest pillows ever made and sell them for thousands of dollars..... ;)
Mmmmm....might be easier to harvest saffron....LOL:rolleyes:
