To anyone who’s reading this that doesn’t know what this is about;
For context, I recently brought home a Sun Conure which I named Phoebe.
This Wednesday marks her first week here (and my birthday actually!). So she’s definitely not very used to me yet but there’s been a small amount of progress.
Everything has been going swell! Until the other day, when I let her on top of her cage since she seemed interested.
Since then, she’s been refusing to come down regardless of my attempts. For context, she has been stepping up flawlessly without seeing a treat most times, and has been doing well with me generally. When she’s up there she will actively avoid my hands, even if I lure her with a treat.
Today I let her up there again, trying to find a better way to go about it and in hopes she’d get it out of her system. But about 5 minutes later I had to leave the house.
I had to put her away so I tried luring her and of course it didn’t work. A few minutes of this later, and nothing is working.
So unfortunately I had to physically remove her. I gently picked her up and placed her in her cage. She didn’t like it (of course) and retreated to the back perches.
It’s been a bit of time since I got back home but she won’t step up on my fingers anymore even from inside her cage (her spot of most step up success).
I know I’ve already posted about this, but I had the idea to upload the clip I captured onto YouTube, so I think it’s worth another try. Especially since this has really stumped me on why she’s being this way and what I can do better.
