Hi all,

I'm wondering if any has had any experience with this. I have an eight year old green cheek named Jasper. He has been a wonderful lil companion from the start. He was very tame and friendly and sweet. I've been sick for many many years and was sick when i got him so i was very surprised when this year he seemed to take my leaving to go to the hospital very personally. I have been in and out of the hospital four times over the past year. When i came back from the first hospital stay this year my formally sweet cuddly boy hated me. He bites and seems irritated and upset every time i'm near him. Its very personal to me because he is still wonderful with everyone else. I have no idea what to do to help the situation. I'm using gloves to handle him because I have been bitten with the skin broken more times to count now. It hurts, not just physically but emotionally. All that I have read seems to be about rehabbing a new bird who has problems not about a parrot that turns on you. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Remember you are talking about a bird and it doesn't understand why you leave him for time. He just knows you are not there and it probably scares him when you are not there. Remember birds bond with their owners and it is very traumatic when things like that happen to you and him. Just be patient and give him lots of attention and maybe things will work out. If you are going to be sick and in and out of the hospital alot you might wanna think about re-homing him for his sake to prevent further problems. I know it would be hard for you to do but we have to think of what is best for them in the long run. Another hospitalization could be very traumatic for him and you. Think about it but in the mean time just keep giving him lots of love and attention.......he may come around. Good luck!

aww i am so sorry to hear this, yes your little jasper is acting out, but vet visit just to be sure

all i can say is time an patiance, yes its very personal when they bite, especially like nut who will fly to give me a bite to punish me for what ever, though i back off i no longer ignore that behaviour

when you have an angry bird they canbe very single minded, but they do get over it, so there is hope jasper will caome around
