Forum's approach to unweaned baby birds

So this thread has become a platform for someone to attack and complain about the members of this site?

Enough.

The fact is, there are one or two people who give the moderators more cleanup work than the rest of the forum members combined. Why? Because they have a tendency to insult - intentionally or otherwise - people who get along smoothly enough with the other members on this site. Now sure, you sit high on your pedestals and complain about everyone constantly misconstruing your words. But what does it take for you to finally stand up and take responsibility for your own culpability in the "misunderstandings" that seem to follow you around with such disturbing frequency? Has it never occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, it's not everyone else? That perhaps you have a tendency to rub people the wrong way? That the problem isn't so much with other members' capacity for understanding as it is with your own ability to communicate?

Point is, it is possible to communicate without implying that people with a dissenting opinion are stupid. Or lashing out at people who disagree with you or perhaps take the wrong meaning from what you have said.

This is not a thread about your issues with other members. Please stick to the topic set by the OP. And if anyone finds that this forum is simply not a good fit for them, there are no bars or locks keeping you here. We value the voices of every one of our members, but we would hate for anyone to feel put upon by being here. So if this is the case, no hard feelings and we wish you well. But if you decide to stay, as we hope you do, please respect the members of this site. It's not too much to ask. Thank you for understanding.

I have seen so many of these hostile threads recently. It makes me feel very discouraged. it’s like every day that I choose to come online there’s another disagreement. We should all be supporting and respecting each other. There is too much resentment and anger.

Thank you, Anansi, for such decisive words while I was mincing mine.
Enough, indeed.

Still tamer than Facebook....

http://www.parrotforums.com/off-topic/75519-never-again.html

I've been following one post on FB where a lot of people are getting upset because a green cheek conure's cage is too small, the bird wants out of the cage all the time, the bird is making 'too much noise' and people saying to get rid of/rehome the bird.

Although I agree a bigger cage is ideal and better perch placement, it's not ridiculously small. Also, most of the people who are saying the bird isn't loud hasn't even heard the bird *BEING* loud, they're only basing it off of what they hear (or rather, don't) from the video. Instead of attempting to help, they're bashing the person for not doing enough research and saying to find the bird another home....

smh....

So well said! Let us hope the protagonists limit the exchange of venom to PMs. We encourage spirited conversation on the open forums, but respect for the interlocutor and fellow members is imperative.

LOL NEWS FLASH!

THis is what the internet does! Oh wait!!

People type words in these forums, others then maybe.... misconstrue the words into their own definitions.

IMO Every word has multiple definitions. Most every thing typed into these forums is opinion. People, IMO.... who they have never met should take everything typed in these types of forums with a grain of salt and not get riled up. Get out of your bubble, people!:red1:

all that you have to do is ask the only member of this forum who has actually met me, what they think of me!

Our job as Mods is not to moderate the entire internet, but to moderate this forum. Part of that job is insuring that members are treated with respect.
I suggest you read Stephen's post again, I think you may have missed his point.

and there you go! and there you have it...

I treat everyone with respect. Thats why I give my time to them to post my thoughts. Understand the point?

the definition of respect is...

Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone.

The internet is totally innocent, it is a conveyance of information. Users have the responsibility to comport themselves within the mores of their chosen venues, ie forums. Along the continuum of PF members, the overwhelming majority fall towards the center of the bell-curve and mesh well with their peers. Those lacking a social filter and decorum find themselves in constant dispute. The choice is yours.

you called the people on this thread stupid... I don't get how that's "respect"
The definition if respect is
Respect is a positive feeling or action shown towards someone or something considered important, or held in high esteem or regard;

Respect is a POSITIVE thing. Last time I checked calling everyone stupid isn't positive. If you really think the internet is such a negative place, maybe don't use it?

OP I'm so sorry to what has happened on this thread. Maybe mods should just lock it at this point.

respect is a response to a stimuli. To ignore is disrespectful. IMHO of course!

Of course typed exchanges on the internet... or any form of written media which, by its very nature operates in lieu of the contextual cues of facial expressions or tone of voice, are more prone to misinterpretation than face to face or video exchanges. There's no debate, there. Nor is there any debate about the extent to which things posted on a forum are opinion.

But there has to be at least a base level degree of civility agreed upon by all parties involved. One cannot hide behind the excuse that all written word exchanges are prone to misinterpretation when you are the one in the middle of 95% of said misinterpretations. There comes a time when you must take responsibility for your greater proportionate role in these unnecessary little dustups.

And as for speaking to the only other member of this forum (WakaWaka - Kelly, Karl & Arika... model collective member) who have met you to find out what they think of you, as Terry said, you've missed my point. I'm sure you are a very nice guy in person. Honestly, if we mods all thought you were just an irredeemable jerk who likes riling people up, you'd have been banned a long time ago. You're constantly fighting, man. And constantly having to be edited. You really make us work to earn our nonexistent paychecks. Yet we have not elected so far to ban you. Why? Because we have been hoping to get through to you. To get you to take responsibility for the words that spring from your keyboard. Because we'd like to think, at the end of the day, that you are a nice enough guy behind your often abrasive verbiage. But to all things there is a limit. And we have to think of the other members, most of whom appreciate the opportunity to just chat pleasantly about birds. Free of any drama.

So no, this isn't an indictment on you as a person. But we mods are not here to sit in judgement of you as a person. Rather, we are here to ensure the smooth running of this forum as a pleasant and positive place with a relaxed atmosphere where people can come and not feel as though they are being attacked for their thoughts and opinions. And while I appreciate that you may feel that your words are being constantly misconstrued, I'm challenging you to look back at your posts and try to work out why you always seem to be the one who is misunderstood, and by so many members. Why no one else is generating the same level of drama. Why the same one or two people always wind up feeling like everyone else is doing them wrong. I'm not saying you're trying to rile people up. But I am saying that you are doing so, regardless of intent. So please, take a moment for some introspection. You've been warned several times via pm. And now in public. We've done all that we can, and more. Next step is yours.

A response to stimuli is called a reaction ;)
nothing whatsoever to to with respect.

oh. and on the original topic... unless it is absolutely a last resort (necessery to save their lives) plucking babyparrots out of the nest to handraise is forbidden and punishable by law since the first of july 2014 in the Netherlands.

So...this is our national official approach to selling unweaned parrots ;)
DONT

You can only seperate babybirds from the parents after they are able to completely feed themselves. Anything else is considered too traumatic and pure animalcruelty.

=

Everything people here offer to keep little ones alive as the sitation just happens to be in that way ... is wonderfull!
I 've read some post where I would have been tearing my hair out - and people here do their best to help.
That is wonderfull.

I don't mean to stir up any hornetsnests or say "we (NL) do this waaaay beter than anyone else" it's just very different all over the planet.
We can only do our best!

I remember what a struggle it is to be all alone with a problembird and *no* information except some heresay.
Nobody should have to go through something like that all alone.

(btw- thanks for the edit- in my frustration about the 'respect-discussion' I forgot ... will be more carefull next time)

To do what? Conform to your version of normal?

Nope, the last step is yours. Ban me if you want. I don't care. I can and do help people with my experience with Rudy and also do regularly in a way that isn't performed on here.

Its this communities loss IMO not mine. Ive got plenty more that listen and learn on a daily basis.

No. To simply be respectful of others. But apparently this is indeed too much to ask.

So be it. If you don't care, why should I. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.

Thank you, Mods. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mods I really think this thread needs to be locked. This is getting ridiculous.

Agreed.

This thread has more than run its course, and is now closed. Apologies to the OP, as well as all other participating members for the derailment of this topic.
