I have a question. My cousin in Chapman Kansas, was sitting outside last night on her deck, when what she called, a "parakeet" (I just told her it's a Parrot) landed on her shoulder. lol !!!

She put a photo and a short video on her Facebook page. Would you take a look and see what particular species of Amazon Parrot it is ?

I told her to check with neighbors, Vet, put a ad on Craig's List & local newspaper to search for the owner.

If the owner can't be located or doesn't care, I said I'll adopt it.
(We have a Eleonora Cockatoo)

Here's the Facebook page- (the pic is not a good one, vid is better)

I would appreciate your help !

Can't see the picture. It says I must log onto face book. Can you post it some other way?

If it's a zon, and it's that tame it's someone in the area's bird. They generally don't stray far. The owner probably lives within a five mile radius of the area where the bird was found.

I told her the same, that it's home is somewhere real close. Most raised birds would not stray far and they would have a tough time finding food and water by themselves.

It is also tagged as a captive bird. I told her to find a identifying mark on the bird, to keep just anyone calling and say, yes, it's my bird. You know how that can happen.

If the owner is not found by June 6th, I'll have to make a road trip to my cousins home Kansas and pick it up, as she's leaving for two weeks. Her neighbor will look after the ad's until she gets back.

Like I said, it's a bad pic. The video is much better.

That's a green cheek conure.

Tell me about that one... I found an african grey last year, and went through this same scenario. The right owner did finally come along however, though we had several "I can scam a free parrot" people... before we found the right owner.

I would put an ad up on Parrot 911, and I would put an ad on Craig's list. Beyond that, ask around the neighborhood. Because he's probably from the 'hood. And someone's probably looking for him...

Great, thanks for the identification !

Is it a Parakeet or Parrot ?
This quote I just found,..."The green-cheeked parakeet or green-cheeked conure is a small parrot".

I'll write up the ad's and have her neighbor post them. :)

Curious, does this species speak much ?

generally not.

They have a gravely whispery voice... and usually only speak a few words.

They are super playful, though and super interactive, and one of the best trick birds out there. Conures are very closely related to macaws. Take a macaw and shrink it, you end up with a conure.
