The other day I was reading an article about talking birds and it mentioned that Starlings are wonderful talkers and to check it out on youtube.

So I did.

I must say, I'm ultra impressed...I mean who knew???

When I remembered I wanted to look up talking starlings on youtube, I had Franklin out playing on our bed.

The first video we watched was a wonderful starling named Wee Woo, and she says..."Gimme a kiss" and Franklin makes the kissing sound, then she says it again, and Franklin ran to the edge of the bed and again made the kiss sound...the she says it again, and Franklin ran up toward the pillows....making the kissing sound:09:

He was obviously trying to find the person telling him to give them a kiss so he COULD give the kiss.

Every time in the video that she said "gimme a kiss" Franklin would look and run around making the kissing sound.

I knew he knew what "Kiss" meant, but I didn't realize he knew it to that extreme.

I'm so, so, sooo proud of him. I guess now if I ever "loose" him..I can just say..."Gimme a kiss" and he'll come running complete with kissing sounds. :D

I didn't know they could talk either. I will have to check that out.

That's so cute with Franklin and the video, lol! Pete always gets excited about other talking/singing amazons.

If you want to watch another cool bird, check out the Lyre bird of Australia. It does some pretty remarkable imitations as well.

Also another one that cracks me up is the crow that snowboards, just look up on youtube "crowboarding". The crow finds a lid off of something and slides down rooftops on it. Cracks me up that they could figure that out.

I didn't know about starlings! Magpies and crows and ravens are good talkers.

Mitchell - I just watched that! It's great! LOL

Well, I watched some of the Starling videos and apparently they can talk quite well! I knew about crows and ravens. We also have mockingbirds around here in the summer. Back when I had a land line, I'd be working outside, would hear the phone ring, go in the house and ...nothing! I'd go back out, hear the phone again, etc. I finally figured out it was some kind of bird doing it. I had to ask the neighbors, what is that telephone bird? I'm not sure if they can talk as well, but they do a spot on telephone imitation!
