As a appreciation post share photos of your galah or just galahs in general and what you love about them. :)

These are such fantastic birds, I can't believe how much I love my beautiful girl and wish I got to interact with more individual birds. Other then Rosie I've only ever met 3 other galahs, each time it was only for a short few minutes before I had to leave.

I love how calm and calculating Rosie is, you can tell she has seen many things in her 20+ years including hardship. When she randomly decides to scream in joy it is such a great sound and she looks so happy/funny with her wings out flapping. People always praise her for her beauty when I take her out and I can tell she has inspired many people to think differently about birds with her story of being rescued and the fact that she i so intelligent.

OMG, that is THE most precious thing I've ever seen: Manny & his lady beetle. :D

They are both so pretty. Thanks for sharing the pictures:)

Your Rosie is so lovely. I love my galah, too. I can hand him to anyone and he's my very best talker so very entertaining. He has an incredible sense of humor. He's ten years old and hasn't ever seriously bitten anyone. He's reasonably quiet, but had periods where he vocalizes his sheer joy in life. He's also a bit of a drama queen if he sees a grackle or hawk out his window. He acts for all the world like a big, pink cockatiel. I wish they weren't so expensive because they really do make very successful medium-size parrots. More people should keep them.

What stunning birds! I have a Galah on my "dream bird" list. SOME DAY! I even have a name picked out for such a fancy pink bird: Feather Locklear.

Do the Galahs get along well with other birds?

Galah is on my must get list too. They're beauty, smarts, and funniness just captures my mind

They get along beautifully with other birds. Of course there are always exceptions and some are grumpy little a-holes LOL
But in the wild they are probably the most naturally hybridising species of parrot I can think of. Galah x corella and even galah x major mitchel have been spotted in the wild. Galah x corella species are common enough I have seen a few in person.

They seem to fairly easily hybridise in captivity as well. Cockatiel x galah, sulfur crested x galah, little corella x galah, long billed corella x galah and major mitchel x galah are all currently advertised in various pet classifieds right now.

Photos from classifieds (note: these photos are for information only, I am in no way promoting the breeding of hybrids for profit).

And a wild adult hybrid at a bird feeder... contrary to popular belief, they do indeed survive to adulthood but I have never seen them with a bonded partner.

In other news... I got DNA results back and my Manny, is a girl. She has been renamed "Mana" because I have been calling her Mana Bird anyway (we are gaming nerds).

I don't think that's the same galatiel as has been featured at the following website, is it?
World first, galah breeds with cockatiel | Talking Birds

I've heard of other galatiels, but haven't seen pics of them.

I haven't met any galah hybrids, but I find them to be darling birds! Definitely one species I could see myself with sometime in the future!

There are GALAHTIELS?!?! :11:

Nah not the same one, this is a little bird that is currently up for sale, its still very young, the grey on its front will likely disappear. The guys have been advertising the two babies of their pair for a while now, asking for "offers". In other words they are after as big a price tag as they can. Personally I think that is DISGUSTING... not to mention its illegal (in Australia) to breed hybrids on purpose. Not to mention a galah x cockatiel is the least appealing of all the hybrids, I would rather either go with a cockatiel or galah. A corella x galah is a much more appealing hybrid as they are a more pleasant pet than a pure corella, they strike a lovely middle ground between the two. A galah x cockatiel makes zero improvement on either parents, its just a breeding based on pure greed and anyone who would buy them is likely just someone who wants bragging rights. Can you tell my Jimmys are rustled?

This was their ad... FIRST TIME ON OFFER GALATIEL(GALAHXCOCKATIEL) | Birds | Gumtree Australia New South Wales - Sydney Region

they took it down and replaced with this... Galatiel Day Berkshire Park Bird Farm | Events | Gumtree Australia Hawkesbury Area - Windsor Downs

probably because asking for offers got peoples blood boiling.

Speaking of Galatiels, her's my friends cockatiel Dante(the tiel I found in the city) trying to court Rosie lol

In response to a earlier comment(that was already answered well lol) Galahs are very social and enjoy company. They can be aggressive towards mates like the white cockatoos but it isn't nearly as common.

These two are fine together, not that I would trust them alone. I also wouldn't trust him to be in her cage with her, that's her space and I don't know how she would react if he got within reach of her.

With the amount of mutations in cockatiels, one could have some interesting looking hybrids. Both species have blue, lutino and pied mutations. Also, sex-linked and dominant mutations in cockatiels and how those might transfer down to their offspring. I'm personally interested in the hybrids myself, but I wouldn't breed them nor would I actually promote someone doing so. I'd just love to know more about them!

I'm surprised that more galatiels haven't popped up outside of Australia, but then again, I don't know of anywhere in the world where galahs can be as cheap as cockatiels, except in Austalia! Another thing I find interesting is the fact that there are no other cockatiel hybrids out there.

I think the biggest question is, are there any health issues with these birds? I.e. fertile or sterile, birth defects, life span, etc. Since these are relatively new hybrids, there's no way to tell. If sterile, you wouldn't have to worry about these birds reproducing and diluting any gene pools - not like we have a shortage of either species, though!

Oh my goodness! I love this photo! It's like Rosie is saying "What the heck are you doing?!?!?!" Love it!

Here's a photo I took of a galah. She belonged to one of the workers at a parrot shop, but I haven't seen either in a long while. Granted, I rarely have a need to go there!

We just got one today. I was going to visit family in Miami so I thought I'd cruise CL adds, as we have been looking for a small Too, and I found Rosie! I have wanted a RB2 for awhile but gave up. Shes only 1 1/2 yrs old, very well taken care of. Her previous own had to give her up due to being allergic to her dander :(. I still cant believe I have one yet, shes so precious!

Funny I have a new baby Galah Rose Breasted Cockatoo, nine months old and named him Murphy but I had a DNA test done last week and waiting for results. OMG hope it's a boy, if not i will call it Murphet! I guess Murphy can actually be for a girl or boy.

That happened to me! lol Called the galah manny cause we were certain it was a boy... ended up being a girl LOL

I love this thread (but of course, I am crazy about galahs).

I will post / write / share photos of the pink boy (Dante) who started my love to this species and the parrot world).

Copperarabian [I love this thread] I see its older. Question for you galah owners. My Jennifer was the only bird out of all the birds Ive owned. That would do things on a verbal command without any hand jestures.Like I would say turn on the music, before I could finish she was dancing. You could hand her a ring and she would toss it back.I I mentioned to my girls [kids] lets play with her and she would find a ring in her cage.I would ask to see her wings and she would whip them out. Does anyone elses bird due this?
