Galah vs Goffin's?

Besides color and slight size difference... (2 inch and 50 grams average)

What is the difference in owning either a Galah (Rose-Breasted) or Goffin's Cockatoo.

We are looking to get a cockatoo and would like to stay with a cockatoo. I've read that the Galah can be more aggressive then the Goffin's???

On reason stated is the clutch size... Galah's usually have 4 - 6 and the Goffins usually 1-2. Therefore it was stated that the Galah is more aggressive?

hi, there! i was wondering the same thing, too! the goffin would probably be more needier, playful, and hyper than the galah. galah may be more independent that a goffin. if a goffin is required 2-3 hours of attention, a galah would require 1 hour. not sure how accurate that hour of attention rate is. i haven't heard about aggression problems with either. i think both have a high pitch sound and goffins love to dance.

i wasn't sure which one i would pick. all the goffins i have seen in person are so friendly and sweet. i really like both. what qualities are you looking for in a bird?

Goffins seem to be more plentiful here. Fran's Exotic Birds had two yesterday; one a plucker. We have no experience with a Goffin, but Chewbaca was a perfect little lady on our recent 2200 mile trip. She rode most of the time on the top of my seatback, inboard of the headrest. She would ride on my shoulder occasionally. She's a real crowd pleaser.

She's chewing again, now that we're back home in our routine. We need to entertain her more, I guess.

They are both a good choice, its going to come down to personal preference. I suggest meeting several of each species in person and see which one you fall in love with more.

We don't have Goffins in Australia... Probably the closest relative is the short billed corella... The Galah and the Corella are seen in the wild eating side by side... I have one of each in an aviary...

From what I've read, the Goffins doesn't really match the soft temperament of the Galah and the Corella...

A Galah is not quite so needy as a Goffins and they are also not as loud, but as with any Cockatoo they are all very destructive and will destroy anything within their reach!

From what I've seen, galahs "seem" to be better companions - they're rather playful and can be affectionate when they want. At the same time though, I've heard of very friendly, playful and affectionate goffins too!

But in reality, I think it would come down to personality of the individual parrot itself and also social-isation.

They'll both be loud - and they'll both crave attention. So ensure you can provide it, and let them integrate with your family, regardless of which bird you get.

Visit some of the rescues - you can meet some wonderful characters in there, and there are many that are in need of a home.

I have a galah and after a lot of work made her independent. But she is loving affectionate playful and dances and talks well for a 10month old female, since they are said to start later and boys being better at it. I personally love the look of goffins and they're cousins the corella but I was goffin aren't available here and I was suggested not to get corella for my home environment.
