I just heard make sure a cage is not galvanized steel. We have galvanized HVAC ductwork through our loft. Is this a bad situation?

No, that will be fine. The issue with galvanized wires is the parrots chewing on it and absorbing heavy metals.

As so well stated above, galvanized HVAC ductwork, although dangerous if chewed rarely present a problem as most Parrots that land on the flat work or more likely round ductwork will not chew it, at most rub their bill on it. Flaking flat work is rare as the process is much better controlled as flaking is consider a quality reject on flat work.
