Considering having a PVC panel rather than bars/mesh at the back of my cage- that size is against a wall anyway and not climbed on. Is PVC a safe material to use? If so what thickness? Those awful acrylic cages (Guinea loft et al. use 4 mm acrylic. Could I go thinner or would budgies demolish a 2 mm PVC panel?

I don't know about specifics for budgies, butttttttttt... PVC has been used widely and well, reportedly... I have never heard reports of problems.
That said, my wife (the paranoiac) doesn't use it.
That's my anemic 2 cents. :)
Good luck!

I belive many people use PVC to build play spaces for their birds so it should be fine. 🙂

I did a lot of research when I wanted to make birdie gym. PVC is safe as long as 1. No glue or adhesive and 2. Not flexible or bendable types. 3 Diameter is appropriate for bird wtg and length of pipe. PVC will sag if bird, toy weight too heavy! It can break. The fun is mixing and matching for your projects.
