Hi I will be getting a pair of gcc soon can anybody help me with the outcome of the babies mutation? The male is a pineapple and the female if a turquoise pineapple. They have had two clutches before and the owner said the babies were only yellow sides and pineapple. I was just wonderin if they will produce anything else other then pineapple and yellowside.

There are a lot of websites out there on gcc breeding, genetics and how the mutations are passed.

Ok, so there are different kinds of inheritance in GCCs. For starters, Pineapple is a mix of Yellow-sided and Cinnamon, both of which are sex linked mutations (if the father is cinnamon, the daughters will be cinnamon, if the mother is yellow sides the sons will be yellow-sided.) and turquoise is a recessive gene, not sex linked. So in order for the babies to be turquoise both parents need to carry the gene.

One note - be sure your birds are actually pineapple and not something else. Your pineapple may be cinnamon. Check under the wings, if the underwing feathers are green it is a cinnamon, if they are yellow it is a pineapple. I have never seen a pineapple turquoise, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see pics, I am very interested to see how it compares to a yellow-sided turquoise.

Actually, upon reading the post again it sounds like the female is turquoise yellow sided not turquoise pineapple. If she were turquoise pineapple her male offspring would would be pineapple not just yellow sided. The only variation you will see from the colors the current owner sees would be if the male is carrying the turquoise gene, which is possible but would most likely have shown itself by now. How long has the breeder owned them?

Yea the female is a turquois yellowside. I was just going off of what he told me but after seeing her she looked more of a turquoise yellowside. I'll try to post up pictures later. The owner only had them for about 6 month with two clutches. He also had a unrelated turquoise that I want to get to pair with one of the babies later on down the road.
The male is a pineapple. After talking to the guy some more I was told that they produce high red pineapples so we'll see if it's true on not in a few month
