I just recently brought home our baby gcc. She was hand raised and is very friendly.when i put her in her cage or before i let her out in the morning she just bites and tries to get out of her cage.I feel really bad watching her do this.how do i get her to relax in her cage.ty in advance for any advice.

When you want her to come out of her cage, show her your hand/finger to step up, and before she gets there, show her a reward. If she knows how to step up (with no pushing into stomach, no lifting toes, etc), then once she steps up, offer her the reward (it must be a reward that *she* likes, will not work if it is not a reward she has no interest in). If she doesn't know how to step up, then reward her for coming closer to you, reward for touching you, reward for one foot on you, jackpot reward for stepping up. Don't do just one reward, but as many rewards as it takes for her to understand that the closer she comes to you, the more she gets rewarded for doing so.

When it comes to going back inside the cage, you may need to show her her rewards and put them in her treat dish or food dish. Teach her that going back to the cage can be a good thing.

GCC's are feisty and bold birds, so I'm not sure that getting a her to relax should be the goal. Sounds instead like she's excited to see you and thus gets nippy. My 14-year-old GCC often tries to bite my hand through the cage bars when I go to open her cage first thing in the morning. When she does that I just walk away and tell her "no bite." She then goes back down onto the perch and waits for me to open her cage 30 seconds later.:green2:
