Just another new member dropping by to say G'day. If you haven't guessed by now I'm an Aussie. Dabbled in breeding cockatiels a decade ago. Sort of stumbled into it rather than planned it. Now I just keep birds as companion animals. Have a couple of GCC, an IRN and a cockatiel. Not much of a talker so don't expect a lot from me. Here to benefit from the wisdom of others than throw my 2 cents in.

Welcome to the forums! Our prime purpose is to better the lives of companion birds, so feel free to lurk and post if desired!

Welcome fellow Aussie :)...you'll find all kinds of general and species specific topics, and even a bit of fun and humour within the forum! Bottom line, you have just joined a community of knowledgeable and kind new Mates. I'm just not one of them (knowledgeable I mean) :D...

Good Morning Talven, and welcome to the site.....seems your surrounded with love talking about your companions. Hopefully at some point you'll want to share some of your wisdom and experience as well, mainly to help a newbie out, as your not a Novice to our feathered friends, you may not have extensive knowledge, but I'm sure with your knowledge, you may be able to help some here who sometimes need a second opinion, to make the best decision for their birds. Just the other day, I was shopping a big box store for example, and ran into a young teen. He had a puppy on a leash, and he knelt beside him and fed him a "Snickers" candy bar, because he didn't have any food on him. The young man had no clue that chocolate to most pets was like Poison. I stopped just for a minute to enlighten him. He thought he was doing his 4 legged friend a favor, because he thought he may be a little hungry, since he hadn't been home to feed him yet. The young man left with his puppy more knowledgeable, and best of all left wanting to learn more. The more he learns, the more knowledge he gains, the better pet owner he will be for his pet. It's a lot like the story, "Give a man a Fish, and he will eat for a day, But teach a man to fish, he will eat for a life time.

I'll look foreword to seeing you around. Some of your "Mates" are already here, They are great people, have great stories, and experiences, I definitely enjoy chatting with them, and their extensive sense of humor. I gotta say, I would sure hate to miss out on your experiences and stories.

G'day, g'day, g'day Talven! Nice to see another Aussie here! Where do you live? I'm in Newcastle, NSW. :)

I'm down in Melton Victoria, Betrisher. Some pictures of my birds -

Ghost -
Echo (My problem bird) -

To be honest I'll probably end up throwing my 2 cents worth in if I can remember it. Back to keeping birds after a 10 year hiatus so I'm somewhat outdated.

Welcome!
Yesssss, gorgeous birds!

Wow, so many Downunder types here... the gravitational force may get sketchy. :)

Casper223 the background behind Ghost was the laundry sink. His cage had been wheeled in so he could get some sun from the window. I couldn't resist getting a picture under natural light. I would have tried for a picture on the playgym like the rest, but he doesn't like my large hands. Very much my sons bird. The tuft of fluff above his head is the shredded end of some sisal rope, his absolute favorite thing to chew.

Hey Talven, I was looking at the picture on my iPhone, and it's not in real sharp focus, so it appeared to be a mini firework show, like one would see on the forth of July or New Years when fireworks are being sent up. It caught my eye immediately, and my curiosity got the better of me, I just had to ask hahaha thanks for clearing that up, and again, welcome!

Hannah great job in the rescue of Sunny. You've done a great job. Most people just take them to the nearest vet and leave. Beautiful bird and obviously well loved.
