Im so freaking excited oh my gosh!!!!!! :D I have wanted a Macaw as long as I can remember. The first time I ever saw a Macaw in person I was 5 and I saw a lady with two Blue&Golds in her backyard she saw me staring and invited me over to play with them so my mom took me over and I loved it they would roll over and give kisses and they were like as big as me lol! Ever since then I knew I wanted one some day. I never thought I would be able to have one because of money, space, and It was just one of those dreams I never thought would ever come true cause it was too amazing you know. Well iv'e done tons of research on them in my spare time and last week I had someone contact me asking if I could take their Camelot Macaw they no longer could keep because their other Macaw bullied him into plucking his chest feathers soon after they were put in the same cage :( So I said YES OF COURSE!! I've been really reading up on them even more lately in all my spare time and tomorrow I go to pick him up at 2pm!! He is 10 years old semi tame, he was more tame before the female bullied him and he's been left alone for a bit now withought much interaction. I am so excited!!! And he's healthy the guy i'm getting him from has his health records and he's already eating Zupreem pellets and fresh veggies and fruits. Anyone have any tips for me????

Awww I am so excited for you!!!!!!! :D Im sorry I cant give you advise though but yay I love love love those kinds of Macaws!I hope you post lots of pics of your new baby! :D

Give him lots of time to adjust to you, as in months. Our Sunny was very traumatized by rehoming but month by month she changed. It is a Huge stress for them. Be very patient. Macaws mate for life and would live with their flock forever so if you are going to be the new flock just remember it will take lots of time. Too many people are disappointed that their new pet is aggressive at first. That is the only defense they have and they are often defensive to cover how frightened they are by changes they don't understand. Be gentle and understanding. It may take time for him to trust again. Macaws are wonderful!

HES HOME!!! :D The lady said he bites but he was suer nice when to me when I was helping her transfer him from his cage to travel cage. Once he was away from all the other birds he seemed to calm down a bunch I think he was stressed being around all the other birds :( Heres some pics of him!

Here he is coming home

Those are beautiful macaws! Just be patient with him as it's gonna take him time to get adjusted to his new home. If you do decide to make any sort of changes don't do it just yet wait a month or two until he's more adjusted in the household. Train him slowly but be stern as they like to run you over if you let them.

Nice pictures !! He looks great :) Hows he doing ? What do you think of him ?

I LOVE him! I spent an hour with him at her place while I talked to her about him and he was bouncing off the walls lol so energetic and curious and I watched him for a bit here but i'm leaving him alone now so he can get adjusted better and sleep.

Im sure you read my thread on Macaws I got off craigslist . Their diet [or lack of it ] made them look awful. Now that they have what I feed the rest .What a difference. I would add a chopmix with beans to his diet and some nuts . Macaws need more than the rest of your birds [their big guys] even some seed is ok. Make him curious about you. Let him watch you interact with your other birds [he will figure out your the "Bird Mom") My New Gw decided she loved me .Which made the Blue and Gold fine after watching her.

I do love her a Scarlet Macaw, soooo pretty!!!!! If I were to get another one it has to be a Scarlet or colors close to it like camelot, catalina, etc. Even better, the golden macaw. :D

Decided to name him Merlin! :)

here you can see his naked belly he actually has a few growing in the middle and hasn't plucked them so yay fingers crossed it stays that way! He also hangs upside down and plays with his toys like that sometimes lol!

I was sondering how long you guys think I should leave him alone in the cage before I start clicker training?? With most birds I wait a few days but i've never had a Macaw or one that has plucked.

I have to agree with you about how pretty Scarlets are... ;)

Another pretty one is a shamrock, a cross between a scarlet and a military.

I am so happy for you and Merlin. He is beautiful!

I had a shamrock... HUGE personality. Humans ruined him!

There are quite a number of beautiful 3rd and 4th generation hybrids out there, but my favorite has always been the Ruby macaws.

Ever seen a ruby spread it's wings? Half Greenwing, half Scarlett. Prettiest of the bunch, I think.
