Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
I just had a 3 day beach weekend and Gilbert came with me to the beach two of the three days.

I had a really hard time deciding which photo to use for the 'fun in the sun' theme, because we had a lot of fun in the sun. :)

He changes, grows emotionally/mentally with each beach flight. It sounds silly to say it like that but i see him get more friendly and confident and talkative, and loving if that makes sense. He seems to show me all this appreciation and love after he has such a good day.

My friend isn't really a parrot person (she had a little fear of Georgie and she is always a little put off by how 'demanding' of a pet they can be) but she loves being part of Gilbert's adventures. He accepts her as someone he will step up for and give kisses.

Here were some of my favorite pics:

Wow, such great pictures! Looks like everyone had fun. I'm glad your friend (though not a bird person) gave it a try and ended up enjoying :)

She is great with setting up his cage at her house for him when we visit, and buying him new toys for her house. :) She made a point to try to be more involved in his life from when he was a baby, and she actually almost brags to people about him. I heard her say something to someone on the beach about how he is such a great bird because i have invested so much time in him.

I think your friend is a 'closet bird person' :) and I mean that joking in a respectful way.
Just a matter of time she gets her own? ;)

Those pictures are lovely. Gilbert looks very happy and well loved.

That's so much fun, for both of you...

And I know what you mean. I can tell the difference in behavior when mine get "out and about" time too, even if it's just the tree in my front yard. It makes a huge difference!

When I see Gil out and about, I wish I was better at harness training Boomer. It's amazing to see Gil fly outside like that. He looks do happy :D

Once again I am blown away by Gilbert's pictures! You both look so happy and free in those pics, and it is obvious what a special bond you have:) So glad your friend got into it as well! It's awesome that she can share in the fun:)
That beach is stunning as well..is that where your friend lives? Lucky girl!!

For about 20 years, my friend did live right on LBI. Lucky is right. She knew enough people to land a fantastic year round rental home. But the owner of the house decided she was going to move there full time, so my friend bought a house right on the mainland off the island. (Still just a 10 minute drive to the island.) She and I have been friends for so long that she is like another sister and makes me feel totally welcome to stay--with my dogs and bird too (and through the years--boyfriends, relatives, etc!)

My only problem with visiting LBI in the summer is that I never want to leave.

Wow, beautiful pics! I hope to get Coqui flying outside one day!

Those pictures are fantastic. That is one happy bird. I love the one where is goes on alert when the beach truck was going behind him. When those head feathers pop up like that blue crowns just look so cute. I watched both of mine doing that today when the trash pickup came.

YES!! I love that with the puffy head feathers (often with flashing eyes). He actually does that for peanut butter too. I think the guy in the truck was actually checking him out as well.
