Do you believe that a female bird will form a stronger bond with a male human?
Will a male bird bond stronger with a female human?
Are there any males here with male birds totally bonded? Ben, I know of you and Eddie.
Any females with female birds??

Do birds really know the difference between a male human and female human?

Opinionated people welcome.:22:

Just find this to be an interesting topic..... ;)

I have a female Hahn's Macaw and she has bonded to both me and my boyfriend (: She does loooove the boyfriend [he doesn't live with me] so it is a treat for her to see him but she does loooove mommy too. She loves both of us pretty equally!

I have read from various sources that birds prefer the opposite sex to themselves, but of course every bird is an individual. It's hard to make generalisations. Generalisations exist for a reason, because often they can apply, but not always. It's the same as saying male birds are better talkers, despite the fact that some male birds will never utter a peep, and some females mimic fantastically.

My boyfriend, bless his heart, specifically wanted a female Sun so she would bond with him. Well, turns out she adores me and tolerates him!! (Of course our little GCC adores him so he's not complaining. ...much lol) Who knows what'll happen when they reach sexual maturity, but indeed each bird is individual. I've heard the same theory, that birds and humans of the opposite sex go best together, but there's enough evidence that this isn't always the case.

I agree that it is not always the case and each bird is an individual

My pheonix ( DNA male ) hand raised by me
is a total lover to me smoochy cuddly etc etc however he hates my partner with vengance
admitidly my man don't spend much time at all with pheonix but he has also never done anything to hurt or scare him etc
pheonix will growl , pin , puff up and lunge to attack my partner should he come close enough ( even when pheonix is in his cage )
if pheonix happens to accidently fly onto him and then realise where he has landed he will draw blood big time
yet he is happy to meet and befriend my female friends

So I would say pheonix is definatly a ladies bird

I was led to believe that this was the case with ALL animals. Males bonding to females and females to males. As I have aged had experiences of my own I believe this may just be a myth! I got a male pomeranian for just this reason and before was looking to adopt a male bird as well but am now thinking about adopting a female.

Either way I find it to be an interesting topic of research.

Fred is a "ladies man"...he seems to be less wary of women... in particular small women with dark hair. Levi diesn't care if it's male or female. Our two dogs were well bonded to both of us...however, they looked for cuddling and comfort from me, and play from Hubby. I think animals and birds bond with male and female equally. They choose a gender based on what they've known....I think some will be aggressive or wary of a particular gender, if they've had a bad experience with that particular gender. Just my opinion based on what I've seen here...

Cal hasn't been sexed but the breeder thought she is a girl....he had other birds to compare her with I guess lol.

She's bonded to both me and hubs. Who she spends time with during the day determines who she is with in her out of cage time. I tend to get "punished" on the days I leave her all on her lonesome for a WHOLE two hours with her Daddy. Unacceptable!

I'm clearly an awful parront :( lol.

Auggie's a male ... and I'm pretty sure I am too.

We pretty much need DNA tests to tell whether a bird is male or female, and humans are far less sexually dimorphic that parrots ... what makes you think they'd have any idea what sex we were?

Our little Alexandrine Max is much more comfortable with the men in our house than he is with me. He loves my husband so much that he "dances" for only him. He'll also sit on our friend Mike's shoulder as soon as he comes in. Max will sit on my shoulder but I'm the only person in the house who isn't allowed to pet him (and the only female human who lives here).

As for our girl birds, Jade love my husband and I the best - and treats us very differently, like most kids with their parents. And Ruby loves me best.

Sterretjie is a female and I am a female and she is only bonded to me. She hates men with a passion and tolerates other woman.

How do they know the difference between a man and a woman, I dont know? Maybe it is the size, the deeper voice, bigger hands, different smell etc.:D Maybe, MAYBE we reflect different lights, parrots see more colours than us.:p

LOL wildheart I love the reflecting different lights comment!

I brought home my baby and she is a female, as am I so I am hoping for the best in that regards :)

Nice to hear about other lady owners who have female parrots who are bonded. I've never had a female animal before..

I honestly believe this is a myth!

I have had 3 AG in my life time, one female and two males.
They have never had a problem with a male or female and visa versa.
They would all willing go to however wants to interact with them, never biting anyone.
The one AG "Congo" was 6 years old when we got him, at first he preferred females, took about a year to change his preferences, eventually got along with males wonderfully.
From day one, we all took turns, to interact with the birds, one on one time.

Take Mishka for example, when He was a SHE, she went to anyone who wanted to hold HER.........
NOW that she is a HE, He still loves both male and female

Perhaps we are "lucky" as I know of many many birds who prefer one or the other.

I'm sure that how the parrot is raised is what it has the most to do with. The parrots experience with females and males.

As it stands my little girl is more wary of females than she is of males because before me she had never been handled by a female. I'm sure this will change as from now on all her experiences will be with a female (me) and they will all be good. Therefore she has no choice but to love me ;) hehehe

This is one of the questions I joined the site for. I am a male and have a 4yr.old female african grey. She loves daddy and will beg for petting like a puppy she will step up on my girlfriend but never climb to her shoulder and draws blood if she tries to pet her. My girlfriend is home with her most everyday does all the feeding and taking care of but its easy to see she's bonded to me.

My daughters cockatiel Daisy, male...long story on the name lol...is bonded with her...throwing up for her and all...gets along with me...hates my husband and son, though the feeling is mutual and he knows it. We've never had the dna done on our Quaker but Buddy gets along with all of us but won't let anyone else near him (I think he's male but can't be sure). We are getting a female Eclectus soon and I'm hoping she gets along with all of us.
