This week the bird seems more aloof and decides when he wants to interact with us. He sits on top of his cage all night.
Its all on his terms.
Im wondering if I shouldnt clip his wings just once, then get him tamer on my terms. I decided not too clip him for life. So can I have it both ways?
Am I being impatient?
He is now 13 weeks old. He was parent raised in an avairy and taken at 10 weeks.
Im thinking now hand tamed might have been been a better choice.

I'd say clip him. He knows how to fly, when his tamer and trained and his wings are grown back, he'll know how to fly. All of my birds are clipped, i excersize their flying by holding them on their chests, well Kodie is the only one that likes it. He usually will sit on my finger and then just jump, then mommy just have to let him fly.. he loves it!

It will be easier to train him, because he knows when his flighted and when he was in the aviary he could only clap and away he is from any human or danger. When clipped he depends on you to keep him save and will see you as a caring and loving parront, not a human running around the house trying to capture him.

Just my thought, the others may have better info on how to tame flighted birds. Let us know what you decide!!!

I was very lucky with my lot, they were very into the training, saying that I had a spell with Bucc where I was sure I was gonna have him clipped, as he decided he was gonna do things on his terms.

From reading your posts with Skippah I think I would seriously think about a clip, for training purposes. He knows how to fly and that won't change. The longer he realises that he can do what he wants then thats when the problems will start, he is getting to the stage that if he doesn't want to go in, he will fly somewhere high. HE WINS gets his own way.

YES you can have it both ways, you can clip for training then leave fully flighted once that has been achieved. That would also be a perfect chance to harness train him so that you can take him outside once fully flighted plus a harness makes it easier to train him to come to you when you call him.

I think if Skippah had been hand reared/hand tamed then I would say no leave fully flighted, but that isn't the case, and at 10 weeks he has gotten the wild side from his parents.

You may have to give him a couple of clips be prepared for that. But I do think its gonna be easier for the training if he is clipped.

Let us know what you decide, we are all behind you 100%. I hope the above all makes sense, my brain hasn't woken up properly yet, its only 11.30 am.

I got him on Xmas eve and was told he was 10 weeks old. Does that make his hatch day October 10th? I may end up clipping once, then seeing where we are at when the 2nd clip is due. He drew blood then flew off Yesterday when we did some "step up" work. He now dow doesnt like his feet or tummy touched coz he thinks I am trying to make him step up. He didnt need to bite as he could have just flown off. So the bite was just an extra comment on what he thought of training.

That is a good one, no he didn't need to bite, but HE has decided he will do things his way or not at all. I had that with Bucc and that is when I first thought of getting him clipped. My problem is I'm a bit of a nutter!!!! and decided that no bird was gonna win over me. I have the scars to prove it.

Exactly right, Its a battle of wits now so just keep them bandaids handy. Guess you could try biting him back but I don't fancy your chances.
